Nürnberg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Nürnberg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Standing before the Neutorturm, it’s easy to feel the weight of centuries layered into its stone. First built in the late 14th century as part of Nuremberg’s medieval defenses, it once marked the way out toward Würzburg and Frankfurt. In the 1500s, when cannons began to change warfare, the tower was thickened and rounded to endure artillery fire; a reminder of how even in stone, the city had to adapt to survive. I found myself lingering here longer than expected. It doesn’t have the crowds of the castle above, but its weathered walls tell just as much about Nuremberg’s resilience and strategic importance. Sometimes the quieter towers speak the loudest.

The Neutor Tower is part of the remarkable Medieval city wall constructed in the late 13th-century that remains very much intact for visitors of the city to enjoy to this day. It is one of four large circular shaped gate towers that you will find if exploring the city wall fortifications. You will find Neutor on the western side of the Old Wall, southwest of Nuremburg Castle. The tower was encased and given its present appearance between 1556-64. It is quite attractive if you enjoy viewing old wall and defensive structures from the Middle Ages. Well worth finding and spending a bit of time to enjoy while sightseeing around Nuremburg.

The Neutorturm is one of the four striking, round main towers of Nuremberg's city fortifications, its old name is "Green K". The Neutor was one of the four main gates of Nuremberg's city fortifications, was mentioned as early as 1377 and led via St. Johannis (Nuremberg) to Fürth , Würzburg and Frankfurt am Main. now it can be visited for free, and it leads to a medicin garden.

The wall area between Hallertor and Tiergärtnertor is called Neutormauer . After that, the street called Neutormauer and the main street Neutorgraben outside were named; also the Neutorstrasse leading to the gate, which used to be used for all long-distance trade, and the Neutor Zwinger
