Ehekarussell was one of the most unique and thought-provoking fountains I visited. The detailed sculptures tell a powerful story about the different stages of relationships and life, making it much more than just a fountain. I found myself standing there for quite a while, admiring the craftsmanship and the emotions captured in each figure. It is a fascinating piece of art that adds character to the city and leaves a lasting impression on visitors.

I spent a good 10-15 minutes enjoying this exceedingly bizarre foundation. It rewards a slow walk around with new odd surprises. Pairs of a man and a woman are in a various phases of dinning, fighting and other activities atop mystical odd creatures. The fellow carousing on a corn cob with the woman around the base draws the eye. Then there is a Venus coming out of her shell to trumpeting. I rather enjoyed the skinny fellow and his well feed lady eating cake and drinking tea on a listing bear. Or the intriguing wrestling zombies / skeletons.

The “Marriage-Merry-Go-Round” was erected directly in front of the White Tower in 1984. The work, created by Jürgen Weber, relates to the poem “Bitter-Sweet Married Life” by Hans Sachs, who in drastic words described marriage from the first stages of ardent love leading to exhausting marital rows right through to the deathbed.

The sculptures are mega cool! They are massive and tell the story of marriage in all possible phases. Very well executed.

“Marriage Carousel” is one of the few modern artworks that I liked from its first looks. Follows pretty closely 16th century poem “The Bittersweet Married Life” by Hans Sachs that stayed relevant across centuries to nowadays depicting ups and downs of married life. Sculptures on the fountain make the story to look more grotesque, but the original poem was humorous too…
