When booking accommodation or travel services in Germany, confirm the check-in window, whether the rate includes breakfast and the local city tax (Kurtaxe or Bettensteuer), and what the cancellation terms are; pensions and Gasthöfe are often family-run and appreciate notice. Reviews that mention noise, bed size, Wi-Fi and cleanliness are usually the most useful. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak.

Nürnberg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Nürnberg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

A beautiful historic gateway and one of the iconic landmarks of Nuremberg. The architecture is impressive and well preserved, giving a glimpse into the city's medieval past. Located right next to the main train station, it's a perfect starting point for exploring the Old Town. Highly recommended for history lovers and photographers.

Opposite the train station is the impressive entrance to the pedestrian zone. After entering, you find yourself in a medieval village, torn from a fairy tale, very cute and unexpected.

Directly outside the train station is this castle entrance. From the outside it just looks like a tower but once you step inside you are greeted to a wonderful recreation of a medieval village filled with shops, restaurants, bars and just all kinds of amazing scenery.
