For public services in Bayern, confirm which office handles your matter and what to bring before you travel, since the Bürgeramt, the Ausländerbehörde and the Finanzamt deal with different paperwork. München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

A magnificent and striking church at Odeonsplatz with a stunning yellow Baroque facade and twin towers. Saw it during the blue hour just after sunset, and the lighting made the architecture look absolutely magical and breathtaking. One of the most beautiful churches in Munich

Standing prominently on Odeonsplatz, the Theatinerkirche is a radiant masterpiece of Italian High Baroque architecture. Commissioned in the 17th century to celebrate the birth of a long-awaited heir, its brilliant yellow facade serves as a sun-drenched landmark in Munich’s city center. The exterior is defined by twin towers and a majestic 71-meter-high dome, while the interior offers a breathtaking contrast: a vast, luminous space of pure white stucco-work. Intricate Corinthian columns and ornate religious sculptures create a sense of ethereal lightness, transporting visitors from the bustling streets of Bavaria to the artistic grandeur of Rome. Beyond its architectural splendor, the Theatinerkirche embodies a profound sense of gratitude and hope. Within its quiet, whitewashed alcoves, one feels the weight of history—a testament to a family’s faith and a city’s resilience. As the sunlight filters through the dome, illuminating the silence, it serves as a gentle reminder that even the grandest monuments are built upon the simple, universal human desire for legacy and peace.

Historic Catholic Church that is open both for worship and touring. Contains the graves of the last Bavarian king and queen. Not every door to the building is unlocked and usable; you will have to try them all or wait for someone to walk out. Facing the church from the street, try the door farthest to the right before the others.

Beautiful and peaceful church right in the heart of Munich. The bright yellow exterior and the detailed Baroque interior are stunning. It feels calm and welcoming inside, with amazing architecture and beautiful altars. The atmosphere is quiet even though it’s just next to Odeonsplatz. Great spot to stop by while exploring the old town; definitely worth a visit!

LThe Theatine Church (Theatinerkirche) is one of Munich’s most beautiful and distinctive churches, instantly recognizable by its striking yellow façade and ornate Baroque design. Located on Odeonsplatz, it adds a touch of Italian elegance to the city’s architecture. Inside, the church contrasts its bright exterior with a stunning all-white interior filled with intricate stucco work, soaring columns, and a beautifully detailed high altar. The atmosphere is peaceful and awe-inspiring, making it a great place for quiet reflection amid the bustling city. As the final resting place of several Bavarian royals, the church also has historical significance. Whether you’re drawn by its art, history, or simply its beauty, the Theatine Church is well worth a visit when exploring Munich!

Impressive. Mesmerizing. Serene. This has to be one of the churches with the most beautiful interior design in Munich, if not Germany. Every detail carved into the inside of the church is so well done, the paintings bring a rather dark yet fitting vibe, and the lighting is also well designed. Something I found so smart about this church is that they installed a layer of glass doors to separate the entrance with the actual inner part of the church, so churchgoers inside will not be bothered by the noise while tourists can take time to feel the calmness of the church.

Beautiful and peaceful. It has a distinctive yellow exterior the interior is white marble I assume amazingly carved. From outside it seems its not open for visitors as the doors look closed you need to just pull or push I don't recall. I didn't know this, in my first visit I only took pictures from outside. Architecture is amazing as you can see below.

Love this striking yellow building. I was much impressed by the white marble work all over inside the building with very detailed work. It has a history. It was start building from 1630. It’s Italian style construction. I have a pent a lot of time to look around and enjoy it. Wish I could enjoy the view of Munich from its tall towers.
