About St. Peter
Located at Peterspl. 1, 80331 München, St. Peter operates as a kirchen serving München in Bayern. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
For public services in Bayern, confirm which office handles your matter and what to bring before you travel, since the Bürgeramt, the Ausländerbehörde and the Finanzamt deal with different paperwork. Stations and airports post timetables on site and in the DB Navigator app, and it is wise to allow extra time at the start of the school holidays and around Christmas, when the whole country is on the move.
No opening hours are on file. If you plan a visit, phone first or check the Google Maps link on this page for the latest times, and remember that most shops in Germany close on Sundays and public holidays. You can reach St. Peter on 089 210237760; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions, and many businesses also take enquiries and bookings by e-mail or WhatsApp. Its website is alterpeter.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 5,568 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded kirchen, moscheen & gotteshäuser in München.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

In Munich you have a number of attraction in old town and many times people do not consider St Peter’s church on their list. The view you have from the tower is exceptional , and the pictures you can take and the memories you can build are unforgettable. What you need to know before you pay the 5 euro to go up to the top of the tower - no elevator, small stairs , sometime difficult to have 2 people passing on same time. If you have challenges using stairs please don’t go.

St. Peter’s Church is one of Munich’s most beautiful and historic landmarks. The church’s architecture is stunning, with impressive interior details, beautiful artwork, and a peaceful atmosphere that invites visitors to slow down and take it all in. Climbing the church tower is well worth the effort, as you’re rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views over Munich’s rooftops and, on a clear day, even the Alps. The location, right next to Marienplatz, makes it an easy stop while exploring the city center. Whether you’re interested in history, architecture, or simply looking for a quiet place to reflect, St. Peter’s Church is a must-visit. It offers a wonderful combination of culture, history, and some of the best views in Munich.

You pay 5 euros to climb up the to the tower. The stairs are windy and different width and depth. So pay attention. Once your up the tower follow the flow of traffic. But once your up there the views are amazing. There is a bench that is indoor so you can sit for awhile and look at the views.

A really beautiful Church. Gilded with gold all over the place and fantastic works of art dotted around the place. The ceiling is stunning, genuinely take your breath away. The altar is lovely. The relic covered in gems is the highlight here, that's what marks it out from other Catholic churches, and it is well worth a look. The place is free to visit, though it's good to leave a donation. Highly recommended.

St. Peter's Church is truly a must-visit place in Munich! The church itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning architecture, peaceful interiors, and incredible artistic details inside. The atmosphere inside the church feels very calm and historic, and the altar and artwork are amazing to see in person. Climbing the tower’s 14 floors was definitely tiring, but the panoramic view from the top made it completely worth it. You get breathtaking views of Munich’s rooftops and the whole city skyline. The best part is that it only costs 5 Euros, which is amazing for such an experience. Beautiful church, great views, and full of history — definitely worth visiting!

Alter Peter (Old Peter), as it is lovingly known by the people of Munich, affords one of the best views over the city’s rooftops. It is the tower to Munich’s oldest church, Peterskirche, which is located just behind Marienplatz.

Great church and well worth the visit. The climb up the stairs is manageable, and the views from the top are fantastic—especially over the old town. At €5 per person, it’s very reasonably priced for such a great panoramic view. Definitely recommend if you’re in Munich and don’t mind a short hike up the stairs.

Beautiful church on the inside. Free to enter for everyone. Just please, like any other church or similar structures, be respectful and observe silence. Bonus is a climb to the top of the bell tower which offers impressive views around Altmarkt including the Rathaus. The climb is steep and can be challenging but very doable, with a few stops to pause. It was not so tight like many old bell towers.
