Die prachtvolle und kunsthistorisch bedeutsame Asamkirche unter dem Patronat des hl. Johannes Nepomuk ist eines der besonderen Schmuckstücke unter den zahlreichen Münchner Kirchen. Sie hat einen ebenso religiösen wie künstlerischen Entstehungshintergrund. Ohne Auftraggeber und als reine Privatkapelle von den Gebrüdern Asam zwischen 1733 und 1746 zur größeren Ehre Gottes und zu ihrem eigenen Seelenheil erbaut stellt sie zugleich das überragende künstlerische Meisterwerk der berühmten Barockbaumeister dar. Egid Quirin und Cosmas Damian bewohnten damals ein Anwesen in der heutigen Sendlinger Straße und bauten diese Kapelle auf einem Nachbargrundstück auf einer Fläche von nur 22 x 8 Metern.

Asamkirche is a small church located in a high street area. While the church itself is stunningly beautiful its main attraction is that it hosts classical music performances featuring guitarists, violinists, organ and piano players, etc on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. Entry to the church itself is simple but to attend the shows tickets have to be booked in advance. In the summers, the place can get a little warm indoors but its a magnificent structure nevertheless.

An excellent church with wonderful Baroque style decorations. It’s in the middle of a pedestrian road in the towncentre.Free entrance. There are evening concerts mainly for tourists. Highly recommended!

Few things can impress me. This church? Made me audibly gasp. Sharply contrasting with its plain, unassuming exterior, its interior is absolutely breathtaking. There are tons of cathedrals in these parts, but this is not just another “Europe church”, this is THE cathedral. Although there was not much to do inside other than, well, admire the beautiful, artistically rich paintings decorating the walls and ceilings, as well as intricate carvings on the columns and pillars, you should still pop in for a look. It IS as good as people make it out to be. Dont miss this if you’re in Munich, it is the missing piece you need to make your visit complete.

Arguably the most beautiful place I visited in Munich! A breathtakingly detailed church that is tucked away from the large crowds, making it rather quiet and peaceful. There were only a few others inside and we went at the peak of the day. Must visit if you are in the city! Have not seen a church like this anywhere else

Don't let the narrow storefront exterior fool you—stepping inside is like walking into a jewelry box of pure Baroque and Rococo madness. Every single square inch is covered in breathtaking gold, intricate sculptures, and dramatic frescoes. It’s small, but the way they use light makes it feel absolutely massive. **Bonus:** Visited today and there was a live musical performer inside. The acoustics in this tiny space are unreal—the sound completely filled the room and made the whole experience feel incredibly magical and cinematic. A must-see in Munich!

Beautiful stop in downtown Munich, it’s located between shops and not as prominent as most European chapels are. The architectural details are stunning. The pictures take of the large chapel area is bared off so you’ll have to admire from afar. It’s a quick visit as only the entrance is accessible to visitors, no fee to enter.

It’s the smallest but most breathtaking church I’ve ever seen. Visiting it leaves you with an incredible feeling. Nothing else in the city made such a lasting impression on me. Its unique and stunning appearance really stands out. Every single detail is exquisite and beautiful. You absolutely must see this church!

Pictures will NEVER do this place justice. It is truly something you have to see in person and sit and take it all in. Absolutely stunning craftsmanship and I was in awe the whole time. It was closed for construction the first day I was in Munich and then I went the next day at 11 and it wasn’t opening until 1pm but it is on the main shopping street so we just strolled and got food and went back at 1. There are plenty of other sightseeing options within a 5 minute walk
