München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

I loved this more than the main palace. You can see so many gorgeous carriages used by the royals

Located in the former royal stables of the southern wing of Schloss Nymphenburg, the Marstallmuseum stands as one of the most important museums of courtly equitation in the world. Its collection offers a breathtaking look into the mobile splendor of the Wittelsbach dynasty, featuring an array of historic state coaches, gala sledges, and ornate riding equipment. The undisputed highlight is the collection of vehicles belonging to King Ludwig II, including his breathtakingly opulent coronation coach. These masterpieces of craftsmanship are adorned with heavy gilding, intricate wood carvings, and plush velvet, representing the pinnacle of 19th-century luxury and the romantic imagination of the "Fairytale King". Beyond the technical mastery of the carriages, a visit to the Marstallmuseum evokes a profound sense of wonder at the intersection of art and utility. Walking among these silent, golden giants, one can almost hear the thunder of hooves and the rustle of silk from a bygone era. It is a humbling reminder of the sheer effort invested in preserving royal dignity and the poetic heights humanity can reach when pursuing aesthetic perfection. Leaving the museum, one carries a renewed ap

The museum displays an impressive collection of historic royal carriages, sleighs, and riding equipment used by Bavarian kings and nobles. The craftsmanship, gold details, and luxurious designs show how grand royal transportation used to be. It is a great place for visitors who enjoy history, art, and royal culture.

This is one of the must-see museums in the Nymphenburg complex. It's like stepping into a magical room filled with various vehicles from fairy tales and fantasy books! I was delighted by King Ludwig II's carriages; they look divine. I can't imagine how people managed to create such masterpieces; they are so delicate and elegant, like beauty itself, frozen in time! I really enjoyed the sleigh section. The sound of the bells creates a wonderful winter holiday atmosphere. Interactive screens allow you to see and read everything you want to know about the exhibits. Visiting the Marstallmuseum was an incredible experience; I loved every second I spent there.

If you are already visiting Nymphenburg Palace, I highly recommend going here as well. This is part of the palace complex, and it is only a 3 minute walk from the main palace building. You can purchase a combo ticket to see both the main palace and this museum for one price. The Marstallmuseum is housed in the former palace stables. The first floor contains beautifully elaborate carriages and coaches used by the Bavarian royal family. Historic harnesses and riding equipment are also on view. The museum might appear small at first, but there is an entire other section across the breezeway, and a second floor. The second floor contains the Nymphenburg porcelain collection and more historic riding gear. I recommend at least 45 minutes to an hour to see everything. If you admire good artistry and craftsmanship, or are interested in Bavarian history, this is a must-do! Note: at the time of my visit, the palace required timed-entry tickets, but the Marstallmuseum did not.
