München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

Stayed 3 nights, very nice hotel in a nice location. In a ritzy area but on a side street and cozy. Lots of construction across the street that made noise early. Shower was nice, push button everything that I have not seen before. Slept 4 of us in a single room that was nice and had enough space. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms should be colder, asked for a fan and they didn’t have one. I ran out of liquid soap twice in 3 days, and shampoo went out after 2nd night. For a 5 star hotel and the price, this was annoying and I expected more. I also ran out of toilet paper. I had room serviced twice per day and my issues should have been prevented. I’d stay here again but I’d not be happy if this all happened again. I only took a photo of my door.

I visited the Mandarin Oriental expecting the flawless 5-star hospitality the brand is known for. While it started beautifully, it was unfortunately ruined at the end by unacceptable service. The lady who took my order was absolutely fantastic so nice, friendly, and warm. She even squatted down to my level while taking orders just to maintain proper eye contact. It was an incredibly professional touch that truly reflected luxury standards. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the guy who handled the bill. When I asked for the cheque, he came over and didn't even ask if I preferred to pay by card or cash. The total was €8.something, and I put a €10 note inside the bill presenter. When he returned, he just handed me the receipt paper directly he wasn't even carrying the booklet, and he did not bring back my change. Can you imagine this happening at a 5-star luxury hotel? Keeping a guest's change without asking is completely unacceptable. Leaving a tip should always be my decision, not the waiter's choice especially for a guy who did absolutely nothing. I would have gladly tipped the wonderful lady, but this ruined the experience.

I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Munich at the end of March ‘26, and the experience was truly excellent. One of the hotel’s biggest strengths is its location: perfect for exploring Munich on foot, in an elegant and quiet area while still being very close to the historic center, great restaurants, and luxury boutiques. What really stood out, however, was the team. The service felt highly professional without ever being overly formal. Every staff member was warm, attentive, and genuinely guest-oriented. You can clearly feel the attention to detail that Mandarin Oriental is known for. Another aspect that impressed me was the cleanliness of the rooms. Housekeeping was impeccable throughout the entire stay — the room was always perfectly maintained, spotless, and very comfortable. Overall, great experience!
