München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Great spot to watch the sunset, sitting on the stairs by the monument. It wasn’t particularly busy on a Tuesday in June. Lots of people brought pizzas with them.

The Friedensengel is next to the Isar in München. So nice to spend a relaxing day walking next to the Isar.

Filled with history and significance, the statue of the Angel of Peace stands tall and watches over Munich. We definitely wanted to visit this landmark but I feel photos are not doing enough justice. Especially with autumn colours and wintery vibes, we definitely enjoyed being here. And if you have the chance, stop for a little while and see how the city life rushes by you.

Dusk The Angel of Peace monument, or Friedensengel, is one of Munich's most sublime spots, and the timing of your visit is crucial to experiencing its true magic. While beautiful during the day, the evening time is undeniably the best. Positioned on a hillside overlooking the city, the monument provides a breathtaking panorama, especially when the sun begins to set. As dusk settles, you get that spectacular view ahead—the golden hour light hits the statue, making the figure of the Angel gleam, while the sky transitions through vibrant oranges, pinks, and deep blues over the city skyline. It's an exceptionally peaceful and cinematic view that feels quintessentially Munich. Adding to the appeal is the proximity to the River Isar. A short walk down from the monument leads you directly to the riverbanks, which also offer a nice view and a completely different atmosphere. Strolling along the Isar at this time provides a relaxed, natural counterpoint to the monumental splendor above. For photographers or anyone seeking a moment of quiet reflection as the day ends, combine a visit to the Friedensengel just before sunset with a concluding walk along the Isar. You won't be disappointed

Beautiful place and monument the Angel of Peace (Friedensengel). The monument consists of a small Greek-style temple on a two-tiered base. A 23-meter-tall column rises above the temple's roof, topped by a gilded bronze statue of the Angel of Peace. Modeled after Nike, the ancient Greek goddess of victory, the statue stands 6 meters tall. The monument was built in 1899 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the peace treaty following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–1871.
