München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This place is a hidden gem. So many things worth seeing and I can easily spend a full day there. But there was literally no one there when I visited on a Friday afternoon.

The Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, founded in 1855 by King Maximilian II, is one of Europe's most significant cultural history museums. The current building on Prinzregentenstraße, an eclectic masterpiece designed by Gabriel von Seidl, is an architectural marvel itself, with each room’s style meticulously matched to the epoch of the art it houses. Its history reflects Bavaria's dedication to preserving its Wittelsbach heritage and broader European craftsmanship. The museum’s collection is breathtakingly diverse. It is world-renowned for its Sculpture Collection, featuring late-medieval masterpieces by Tilman Riemenschneider, and the exquisite Nymphenburg Porcelain. However, the hidden gem is the Nativity Scene (Krippensammlung) in the basement—the most comprehensive and artistic collection of its kind in the world. For the best experience, start from the upper floors to follow the chronological evolution of European design from the Middle Ages to Art Nouveau. Don't rush; pay attention to how the ceilings and floors change to reflect each era. Wandering through these halls, I felt a deep sense of reverence for the "soul of things." It is a place where history isn't just displayed but f

Was sad the art nouveau section is currently closed and it’s not announced on their website but I must say their carved ivory section was unexpectedly captivating! Beautiful collection of whimsical carvings made hundreds of years ago. This museum is also included in the 1 euro on Sundays deal :-)

We visited the Bavarian National Museum on a Sunday when admission was only €1 per person, which made the experience even better. This place is truly one of the most beautifully organized museums I have ever seen in my life. Every section is perfectly curated; from medieval sculptures and baroque art to detailed furniture and folk culture exhibits. The building itself feels like part of the exhibition; elegant, peaceful, and full of history. The nativity scene collection was especially impressive, incredibly detailed and fascinating. It wasn’t crowded, so we could take our time and enjoy every detail. The staff were kind, and the overall experience was calm, informative, and inspiring. Absolutely worth visiting when you’re in Munich – especially on Sunday!
