München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

Not too large but they have some impressive exhibits. Also there is never a crowd so it is nice to visit. Also it is free.

The Palaeontological Museum Munich is an interesting place, though probably not a “must-see” for the average tourist. It’s an older museum with a fairly small collection, but some genuinely interesting exhibits if you enjoy paleontology and dinosaur history. One thing that makes the museum unique is that it is still very much a working paleontological institution. You walk through halls with fossils and dinosaur skeletons while researchers’ offices and student workspaces are right beside them. That gives the museum a very authentic academic atmosphere. The collection includes several worthwhile pieces: * Plateosaurs * A Centrosaurus * A Triceratops skull * An Allosaurus skull * Many ichthyosaurs and other marine reptiles * A pterosaur skeleton * Some extinct mammals, including early elephant relatives What disappointed me slightly is that the museum barely seems to mention its connection to the famous Spinosaurus fossils discovered by Ernst Stromer. Those fossils were originally kept here before being destroyed during the bombing of Munich in World War II. That story is one of the museum’s most historically significant connections, and it feels strange that it is almost absent

What a delightful find! Low key. Lots of information. Cool displays. I took off one star only because I'm a lazy American and not all of the info text was available in English. I did use a translator for some things. It's a 4.5 as is, and would be a 5 with full multi lingual support.

Amazing local museum with different fossils! My group went in the morning, so it was not crowded at all. They didn’t have very many fossils of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures (probably around 14 or 15), but they did have a rather large collection of ammonite. There were English translations of most of the larger fossils. Would recommend if you are in the area and are interested in prehistoric life!

Fantastic museum to take dino-loving kids to! Free to enter with a great selection of dinosaur and prehistoric animal fossils/skeletons. My son was running around so excited to see dinosaurs he recognised and to learn about new ones too. A top recommendation for kids in Munich! Take note that I believe it is closed on weekends and closes earlier on Fridays.
