München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

The Hofgarten is a charming and relaxing place, located just behind the Residenz. The real highlight is the Temple of Diana in the center, where people spontaneously dance, creating an atmosphere of times gone by. Worth a visit!

A visit to the Hofgarten is undoubtedly an absolute highlight. This oasis - laid out in 1613 under Elector Maximilian I - is far more than just a park; it is a charming retreat with a truly unique, almost meditative atmosphere. Designed entirely in the style of the Italian Renaissance, the garden is flanked directly by the Residenz and the Bavarian State Chancellery. This stately garden courtyard offers a visual interplay between vibrant flowerbeds and historic, cream-colored masonry. It is the perfect place to simply switch off and unwind. At its heart stands the Temple of Diana, an octagonal pavilion dating back to 1615. From it, eight paths radiate outward in a star pattern. The temple is crowned by 'Tellus Bavarica' - a statue whose symbols for salt, grain, and beer proudly embody the wealth of my Bavarian homeland. While the temple appears rather simple from the outside, its interior captivates with intricate mosaics. Furthermore, the open arcades offer a fantastic panoramic view over the entire, perfectly symmetrical grounds. The Hofgarten also features four impressive tiered fountains as well as a surrounding arcade walkway. Particularly in the height of summer, it can occas

No so big, but beautiful garden with wide aisles for walking. One of the biggest pluses for me was autumn colors, making walking through the park even nicer and very photogenic.

A serene and elegantly manicured public park located in the city center. A perfect spot for a casual stroll, a summer picnic, or just people watching. It gives the impression of both an urban green space and a sumptuous palace garden at the same time. Dense trees, flower beds, and sculpted hedges line the pathways, with the historic Munich Residence and the impressive Bavarian State Chancellery lining the perimeters. If you want to see architectural beauty mix harmoniously with natural foliage, this is worth a visit.
