In Nuremberg for the trade show and I stumbled upon this restaurant, I would say it’s one of the best I’ve tried in Germany. Highly recommend their pork shoulder

Altstadt, located in a historical building as the name suggests. I'm sure there's more history to this place. Next to the cathedral, we entered this nice and clean restaurant based on an internet recommendation. However, we weren't highly impressed by this eatery. I tried the highly appreciated dish, a pork shoulder, which was okay, and the dish made sure I wouldn't be hungry for the next 5 hours. However, my wife's beef wasn't that satisfactory. Btw I have had better pork dishes in Prague, Warsaw, and even in Berlin. Regarding the prices, the beef dish was a little exorbitant given both the quality and quantity. Also, I don't like the idea of including tips as part of the billing mechanism. The mere definition doesn't justify the action.

Had a booking and thankfully because it seems to be a popular place. The Barman was very friendly and I let him make the food choice for me. As you can see from the pics it did not disappoint in taste or quantity. Sitting at the bar also means I got to look at the kitchen when they prep which is a favourite. Delicious food, friendly and hospitable staff and my god was I full after that.

Compared to the many traditional establishments in Nuremberg, this modern-style restaurant (in terms of its interior design, service, and menu) is truly a breath of fresh air. It still serves classic Franconian dishes, with top-notch flavors and preparation. The Schäufele boasts crispy skin and tender meat, paired with a traditionally rich gravy. The spinach Knödel was surprisingly impressive, and the Nuremberg sausages delivered that familiar, authentic taste. The open kitchen offers a visual feast, letting guests watch the cooking process unfold. The drink menu also features beers from local craft breweries. I’ve dined here several times on my own and also brought friends along — and each visit has earned rave reviews. Absolutely recommended without hesitation!

Came for a business celebration following a show at the messe. Good food, good service and great beers. Appetizers were tasty and quite different, mains were very filling and great taste. After dinner schnapps was excellent too. Good place for a nice dinner. Great staff too.
