Beautiful church with awesome interior plus a fantastic organ. It’s great place to visit if in town. However I am not sure if I would make a special trip just to visit the church.

Every noon you may visit 30 min Organ Concert. Nice cathedral!

The crown jewel of Passau, this cathedral boasts the largest pipe organ in Europe. A gorgeous Baroque structure, the original Gothic cathedral burned down and this Italianate replacement was built in its place. The church is dedicated to St. Stephen, the first person martyred for believing in Jesus Christ. The front altar (from the 50’s) shows the scene of his stoning from the book of Acts. The frescoes are amazing and brilliant in color. We attended a noon organ concert (~30minutes) which, while impressive and only 6 Euros, only used a small portion of the possible organ power. Much of the main organ is being renovated and (!) new, additional pipes added. Worth a visit if you are in Passau. No ticket required for entrance.

I am writing this review specifically for anyone going here to hear a concert of "the world's largest church organ". That organ is currently down for maintenance. It has been since at least 2023. It will be for many more years to come. And so what you will hear is a lovely recital on a very ordinary sized church organ instead. You can decide if that is worthwhile or not before dragging the kids out of bed to catch a 2 hour train from Munich like we did!

Breathtaking & very ornate inside & out The organ & part of the inside & outside is having some work done. We couldn't see the organ at all. However, what we did see was spectacular & worth a visit.

First time in Passau and the Dom completely blew me away. St Stephens Cathedral looks massive from the outside, but inside its on another level. The space, the details, the light, it all just hits you at once. You walk in and instinctively slow down, just looking around. It feels powerful but at the same time calm. Hard to explain, but it really leaves an impression. One of those places you dont forget after visiting Passau

I was in awe of the beauty here. The Gothic architecture is charming and the sculptures are incredibly calming. I highly recommend buying the ticket for the chapel area (around €7); it includes an audio guide and lets you escape the crowds that stay on the free side. It gives you a moment of true quiet to immerse yourself in the history. We also took the elevator to the North Tower to see the Pummerin bell. Note that the elevator only holds about 4 people and it gets quite windy at the top! The panoramic view is absolutely worth it—just remember to look down for a great perspective of the Stephansplatz below. Spent about 2 hours and €14 total; very well spent.

Wonderful, rich decorated baroque cathedral of historically important town of Passau. There are currently some renovations around the choir. A place to feel the greatness of God.
