Worth the 5 euros to go into the treasure room and the bone room. Fascinating and beautiful

Nice minor basilica. The interior is sober as it was damaged during WW2. The golden chamber is well worth it, small but with a lot of details.

St. Ursula is the kind of place that doesn’t appear in most travel itineraries — and that’s exactly why it’s worth going. Most visitors to Cologne stop at the Dom and move on. Understandable. But St. Ursula, just a short walk north, offers something the cathedral can’t: intimacy with the strange and the sacred in equal measure. The church itself is quietly beautiful — Gothic nave, tall windows, that particular quality of light that old Cologne churches seem to specialise in. But the real reason to come is the Goldene Kammer. The Golden Chamber. A room lined floor to ceiling with bones. Not in a macabre, horror-film way — in a medieval way, which is somehow both more unsettling and more moving. The remains are arranged in patterns, inscribed with names, decorated with fabric and gold. It’s a memorial that operates on completely different aesthetic logic than anything built after the 18th century. The legend: St. Ursula and her 11,000 virgin companions were martyred here by the Huns in the 4th century. The number is almost certainly a medieval mistranslation, but the devotion that followed was entirely real. This room is the physical evidence of that devotion — centuries of it, compr

The Basilica of St. Ursula in Cologne dates back to the 12th century and was built around 1185 on the site of an old Roman cemetery and a 10th-century convent. The church was badly damaged during World War II, but it was later restored, with the main building finished in 1972. Today, it stands as a reminder of just how much history this place has seen.

Pretty church, love the bone room (2 euros entrance fee). Only open for a few hours a day.

Just a months before my visit, I watched a documentary about St Ursula. The story touched deep my heart and I was so happy when I knew about her final resting place to be in Cologne, which was already in my plan to visit in my upcoming trip to Germany. This place is not so big compared to the cathedral of Cologne but no words to describe the feeling once you are inside. Even more, when you enter the Golden Chamber, which you must pay 2 Euros. Please keep in mind that the Golden Chamber only opens from 10 am to 12 pm and from 3 to 5 pm. We were there at 2 pm and we decided to return at 3. It was a great joy and thankfulness to be able to make this visit to pray for, to honor, and to be in such a sacred place. I suggest that you read about St Ursula’s history before you visit her sacred place. You will really feel the difference.

Beautiful church with a interesting story attached. Going into the gold room is worth the extra few euros so you can take in the splendor

Beautiful church with a mixture of baroque and Gothic architecture. If you have a chance to visit the Golden chamber it is not to be missed. Very friendly parishioner took my €2 and very amiably showed me the chamber and pointed out highlights of the restoration. Not to be missed! Also aside from a beautiful church I found it a very sacred place to pray.
