Eating out in Germany runs from a quick Döner at an Imbiss to a long evening in a Gasthaus, and a listing like this one is best judged on freshness, turnover and how consistent the reviews are rather than on decor. Lunch menus (Mittagstisch) are usually the best value, menu prices already include 19% VAT and service, and many kitchens close between lunch and dinner. Bakeries open early and are the one shop you can count on for a Sunday morning.
Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–11 pm. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Zum Stiftl - am Marienplatz on 089 295202; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions, and many businesses also take enquiries and bookings by e-mail or WhatsApp. Its website is zum-stiftl.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 888 reviews, which is a strong result for a restaurant in München and suggests consistent service.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, hidden from the crowds. Tried the Münchner Schweinsbraten and absolutely loved it! Excellent service from Maria who made the best recommendations for someone looking to have an authentic gastronomic experience. Thank you!

Zum Stiftl - am Marienplatz. We were probably a bit unfortunate. They forgot three out of four dishes. I was served mine, but after a while, they came and apologised, suggesting a different dish for two of us to speed things up. The food, when delivered, was good for all of us. The staff was friendly, despite the forgetfulness. Recommended in its category.

Found this place while searching for some less-touristic places to eat dinner, and so glad I did. Very warm welcome, quite authentic inside and very delicious food (I ordered triple sausages and strongly recommend it) for a reasonable price. Special thanks to Tereza for the suggestions and the friendliest service possible!

This was the first place in Munich where I really felt like I tasted a traditional German dish. I got the trio sausage dish and it instantly tasted like a unique German dish. They also had a local diet soda that I enjoyed named Sinalco. This is apparently one of the oldest sodas in Europe. Worth a try because it's pretty good. Service was good and attentive. I went on a Sunday night and there were plenty of room available. But it's also off season in Munich. If you're looking for a traditional tasting German dish, this is a good spot to try.

Good day, I had a chance to visit the venue for lunch on 30 December at around 1500-16.00. It was 4 of us. Despite the fact that it was very crowd all around the city and also in restaurant (it was a small place), we get a tabel for 4 persons and it was comfortable enough. The quality of ingredients for each meal (incl hamburger) is definitely worth to mention. We had: Bayerische Käsespatzle, Burger, Cordon Bleu and Zanderfielet. Kasespatzel, if only you are in general not "against" , it is recommended by me. It was creamy and with proper taste of cheese without any extraordinary tuning that is not needed. My friend had a Burger and was also very satisfied with quality of meet and sauce. I had a Cordon Bleu and it was crispy and tasty with side dish being "tomato salad" but here in "2.0" version, with cucumber (pickled and fresh), grated carrot, chivas and sauce with proper balance of vinegar and oil. Fish was fresh and sauce served within was tasty, still light despite cream inside and we think with a bit of saffron. We had local Riesling wine and I took Augustiner Helles, which is the local king and goes with all possible food (including sushi :)). As mentioned the venue is not
