For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 10 am–12 am. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is 089 2318120. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is zum-franziskaner.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.4 out of 5 on Google across 7,000 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded deutsche & regionale küche in München.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere. If you are looking for a quieter dining experience you might want to try inside towards the back. For a more lively experience eat towards the front.

Our last night in Munich. Adam from our, our food tour guide said eat her for an authentic Munich dinner. We were not disappointed. Our waiter, Mr. Prochazka was fantastic. Great recommendations and his service was outstanding. We had the sauerbraten and the 5 Bavarian sausage plate. The apple strudel to end the meal was divine. The Veltiner is a wonderful dry white. Thank you.

The food was delicious and the staff were hardworking and responsible, but unfortunately the restaurant was extremely busy during our visit. We were a group of three and arrived during peak hours. We waited about 10 minutes at the entrance while seeing staff constantly rushing in and out, taking orders, serving food, handling payments, and cleaning tables. However, no one acknowledged us or told us where to sit. At one point, a staff member kindly showed us to a window seat, but shortly after, another staff member informed us that the table was reserved and asked us to leave, without arranging an alternative. We ended up waiting another 5 minutes before a host finally came and seated us. The server responsible for our section was clearly overwhelmed. They took our order quickly and left, and when the food arrived, we realized one of the dishes was incorrect. We had to pay extra to adjust it. Although the pork knuckle was excellent, the overall dining experience was not as smooth as expected. All the staff were visibly working very hard throughout our visit, but it seemed like there simply weren’t enough people during peak hours, which led to mistakes and confusion. Hopefully, t

Great restaurant with Bavarian food in large portions! There were many seating options (both inside and outside) the food was very good, but the wait was around 25 minutes. Overall would recommend

Nice traditional Bavarian restaurant with authentic local dishes. We got recommendations to try the duck leg. It was good and nicely prepared, but not particularly impressive. I noticed many other guests ordering the Kaiserschmarrn and the Wiener Schnitzel, which looked great. I would probably skip the duck leg next time and go for the Wiener Schnitzel instead. Overall, it seems like a solid place for traditional Bavarian food
