For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.

Opening hours are published for 1 day a week. Typical hours are 12:00–23:00. It is closed on Sunday. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 089 299995. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. More information is available on its website, zumaltenmarkt.de.

Customers rate it 4.7 out of 5 on Google across 1,346 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded deutsche & regionale küche in München.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

We went here twice in three days it was so good! The inside was beautiful and cozy. The food and the service were superb. We sat outside the second night. Came for a glass of wine and dessert!!!

This was a perfect end to the day. I read about it in blogs and it sounded like a must. First, it's tucked away in a corner alley so it doesn't feel like the city center. Quiet and cozy. The drinks (esp the summer special with lillet) were great. The service (Effie) was the best. But the food, my god the food. The salad was simple and delicious, my schnitzel was the best I've ever had - very lightly pan fried with rosemary and breadcrumbs with a side of cranberry chutney (my partner got the pork loin special and loved it, but agreed mine won the top prize) , and the dessert with sherry was the perfect ending. It was so good, we tried to go back the next night, but they were fully booked. We had to grab a bratwurst from a stand instead. Boo.

We didn't have a reservation but were accommodated for a quick dinner. We ordered the mixed salad, Selin's cheese spread, pork cheeks, and grilled salmon with rosé. Everything was delicious. Before our vacation ends, we're planning to go back to try their special schnitzel. Indoor seating is a bit limited compared to their outdoor seating, but the service was attentive.

Stopped by Zum Alten Markt for a beer and a quick bite. Really liked their dunkel beer,it stood out compared to other places. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. In summer, the outdoor seating is perfect if you just want to relax with a cold beer.
