Loved this German restaurant - excellent choice of Bavarian dishes, delicious food. We arrived without booking and were seated quickly, on the terrace outside. The atmosphere was gently buzzing. I appreciated the non-alcoholic beer options (the alcohol-free wheat beer and lager were both great). Schnitzel with potato salad was v tasty. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. Wirtshaus in der Au was one of the best traditional Bavarian meals we had in Munich and absolutely lived up to its reputation. We ordered the beer cheese combo, roasted duck, the famous trio of dumplings, and finished with the Toblerone Bundt cake served with vanilla ice cream. Everything was outstanding. Amazing beer cheese better than those had at other beer gardens. The roasted duck was perfectly cooked with incredible flavor, but the real highlight was the dumpling trio. It’s easy to see why they’re famous—each one was unique, packed with flavor, and easily the best dumplings I had in Munich. The Toblerone Bundt cake was a decadent and delicious way to end the meal. We paired everything with several glasses of wheat beer and Helles, which complemented the food perfectly. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit. The restaurant offers a huge outdoor beer garden along with plenty of indoor seating, making it a great choice for both small and large groups. It’s a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food makes it well worth it. I’d highly recommend making a reservation, as it’s a very popular spot.

Absolute Food Heaven!!!! 🤩😍😋 Menu in English available via QR code on the menu card, the staff was top, the good hit the spot (Schweinsbraten mit Kartoffelknödel und Speck-Krautsalat). Consider reserving a table in good time, we visited on a midweek evening and it was practically full.

Sat outside without reservation. Saturday night. SHOULD GET A RESVN. Established 1901. Great service. Waiter lived in US so spoke perfect English, but so did the host. Unique / official Bavaria food: schnitzel, veal, sausage, potato, etc. good beer. Very neighborhood place. Loved it

After visiting the Science Museum, I stopped by this Wirtshaus and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope for—warm, traditional, and full of character. The food was outstanding. The dumplings were incredibly soft and flavorful, and the schnitzel was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy inside. You can really taste the quality and authenticity in every bite. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. It was the ideal place to relax and enjoy a satisfying meal after a long day of exploring. I would definitely come back again!
