For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11:00–01:00. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is 089 225268. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is tattenbach.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 2,157 reviews, which is a strong result for a deutsche in München and suggests consistent service.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

First time in Munich, and my last visit to Germany was back in 1989 for much different reasons 😂. Arrived at the hotel, just around the corner and asked for a local restaurant. He put us in the direction of two and the Tattenbach Wirtshaus & Struberl was the first one we came to. Good beer, good food and a mellow atmosphere. We will hopefully definitely go back, if not this trip, another.

The most wonderful Bavarian restaurant experience I've had till date. The hostess Nikola was super welcoming and took time to explain the menu to me. I had the meatballs and pancake - very tasty.

Food was average. Kasespatzle was more cream, did not feel the cheese at all. Big portions but quality wise quite low. Kaiserschmarrn was very thick, almost uncooked, nor caramelized at all, felt like thrown in the plate. The service was very rude, at all requests answered back in impolite way. She asked by herself for 10% tips which we anyway left in cash, but did not even say thank you or anything. Will not recommend and definitely not come back.

Lovely food, service and place. A small tip for the owner : put some fragrant in your toilet as it smells. Not nice to have that smell after having a lovely meal at your place.

Our hotel guest services recommended this as her favorite local place with authentic food. She was spot on. The food was so good, the best Bavarian style fare we've had in our week traveling through Bavaria. We had the meatballs in mushroom gravy and snatched. Very large portions and comfort food that 'sticks to your ribs'. We almost couldn't get in without a reservation, they were full, but kindly offered to sit us at the bar. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They serve augustiner beer and the hellis has been my favorite easy drinking beer. We tried the knodel on the special menu, it had vanilla cream sauce and plums on a light fried dough. This is further out of Aldstat, but worth it!
