About Museum Tucherschloss und Hirsvogelsaal

Nürnberg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Nürnberg is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

Nice small museum. Former castle-like mansion of patrician familly. Several rooms with historical furniture, portraits etc., sculpted garden with modern artworks. Lots of stairs. Only open Thursday afternoon as it is run by volunteers. There are guided tours or one can explore on one's own.

We visited on the €1 International Museum day. The outdoor Sculpture park (which is accessed through the Main Museum Tucherschloss entrance area and connects to the Hirsvogelsaal) had lovely manicured green space. The Sculptures on display at the time were rather disappointing in quality. The Hirsvodelsaal itself is worth the extra walk and provided some tragically interesting stories of its history (built & human). The main building (the much larger Museum section) was quite busy but timely navigation to easily accessible different rooms helped to ensure nothing was missed. The walls shared enough information (plenty of painted Portraits) with English text in many sections. A very informative Museum experience (especially about the Tucher dynasty) were you can imagine life in those years gone by. It's worth a visit here (probably allow 2hrs).

The museum was opened to the public on February 2, 1969. The museum brings to life the world of Nuremberg merchant families from the 16th century. It includes valuable furniture, tapestries, paintings and handicrafts. The entrance price for adults is €6 and the duration of the visit is approximately 1-1.5 hours. Free lockers and foldable seats available just after checkout.😊

Absolutely glorious visit, one of the most interesting things I've seen during my stay in Nuremberg! The only thing that's problematic is the very limited schedule some tourists might find frustrating. This building was completely destroyed during the war but everything that could be saved was diligently kept and later used in the reconstruction so the house tells a story of survival as well. The objects on display here belong to the family whose forefathers built the house in the 16th century and it was through the efforts of the Tucher family that we can today enjoy this place. Getting a glimpse of the history of the city through the history of this house and the artefacts it holds was an uplifting experience.
