Augsburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Augsburg is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

The Neptune Fountain (Neptunbrunnen) is one of the three Prachtbrunnen (splendid fountains) that you can see along Maximilianstraße in Old Town. It is situated just across from Schaezlerpalais. The original was the work of Dutch sculpture Adriaen de Vries (1602). The bronze features of the fountain you see today are replicas while the originals are held within Maximilianmuseum for preservation purposes. What you see is a bronze figure of Neptune, God of the Sea, battling a seven-headed hydra in a symbolic gesture of human triumph over the wild forces of nature. The figures are atop a pedestal adorned with additional bronzes of naiads and cherubs from which water spouts into the basin below. Interestingly, the Neptune Fountain is an inclusion in the. UNESCO World Heritage recognition for Augsburg's Water Management System and is part of the Prachtbrunnen (splendid fountains) along Maximilianstraße along with the Mercury Fountain, also designed by Adriaen de Vries and the Augustus Fountain. They are all three impressive monuments worth viewing while sightseeing around Old Town.

The Hercules Fountain in Augsburg (Herkulesbrunnen) is a grand Renaissance monument by Adriaen de Vries, cast in bronze between 1596-1600 and erected in 1602. It features a 3-meter tall Hercules wielding a flaming club as he battles the seven-headed Hydra, symbolizing the conquering of untamed forces. Around him are Naiads, sea gods, tritons and playful putti, plus reliefs showing mythic and civic themes. It is located on Maximilianstraße in Augsburg and is one of three “Prachtbrunnen” (splendid fountains), all part of Augsburg’s UNESCO-designated water management heritage.

one of the Fountains designed by Elias Holl in the 17th century, it is placed before the Merkurbrunnen in the maximilian straße, on your way to the Dom.

A beautiful fountain with a stunning view of the church in the background. The fountain itself is worth a good look as there's plenty of details that may be missed on a casual viewing. The fountain is very obvious popular amongst locals as it was difficult to get at it during the weekend evenings - which always bodes well for a tourist location!
