About Café Münchner Freiheit

For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.
The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. The most common schedule is 7:30 am–7 pm. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is 089 33007990. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. More information is available on its website, muenchner-freiheit.de.
Its Google rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 2,911 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect before you commit to a visit.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

We only came to buy 2 little cakes and it was over priced (+11€). The cakes were average and small, far from what you can get at a french patisserie. Pity…

This café is well known and usually crowded, but to reach the upper floors you have to use the stairs. Since we had a stroller, we couldn’t go to the other floors, and even on the ground floor there wasn’t a proper space for a stroller. It felt like they weren’t very happy for us to stay long in the café. I personally liked the spinach quiche. The staff were moody — sometimes kind, sometimes strict and irritated (which may be due to how busy the café gets, but it’s still not the customer’s fault). The prices were slightly high, but the quality was good. The location is great with easy street access, but there is no elevator. Another downside was the ordering system: you have to get a receipt first, sit at a table, and then wait for a waiter to take and deliver your order, which felt complicated and time-consuming. The coffee arrived lukewarm, and I personally prefer my coffee hot. The coffee and orders were not served cleanly. The coffee cup was spilled, and they brought it to us as it was, which I found surprising.😦 Overall, it was okay as an experience, but not somewhere I would rush back to.

A fantastic cafe located in the heart of Munich. The decor and ambience are very chic and pleasing to the guest. The way the cafe is designed across the three levels is perfect. Breakfast options are great as are the heavier meals. A personal recommendation would be the Viennese Schnitzel with baked potatoes and cranberry compote. It was really crispy and flavourful. Another popular option seemed to be French toast as well. Of course don’t forget to try the Bavarian white sausage and pretzel either. Overall my visit here was a very pleasant and enjoyable experience indeed. 5stars.

We enjoyed Cafe Munchner so much we visited twice. The location is excellent and the outside seating area is fabulous. We enjoyed the coffee in a large mug and the continental breakfast with boiled egg. There is some beautiful looking ice cream on offer but unfortunately we did not have room after breakfast.

Location: it is directly at Münchner Freiheit, you can easy reach by public transportion, there is a park lot nearby too. (5) Environment: it has a large room for cakes and sweeties, then it has 2 more floors for cafe. You could get sunshine if you go upstairs nearby the windows. Usually it’s busy. (4.5) Food: I think the cakes are excellent, you could order a birthday cake there too. The cafe is so so from my personal taste. (4) Service: the stuffs from both area are friendly, nice and supportive. Although not everyone speaks English but they try to help. (5) Price: I think it’s a normal price for a cafe shop in Schwabing. (4.5) Overall: 4.4 I go there time by time.
