München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The room was not as good as we expected. The bathroom door was broken, and although we informed the reception about the issue, it was unfortunately not fixed during our stay. On the positive side, the Skybar on the rooftop was super chill and had a great vibe. The bartender, Mihiri, was very friendly and welcoming, which made our experience there really enjoyable. We especially loved the atmosphere and would definitely recommend checking out the Skybar.

Caveat - we stayed in a private room, on the first floor. Was this the nicest hostel I have ever stayed in? No. But that's because I paid relatively little to stay there. Cleanliness - the hostel was base clean, no bed bugs, bathroom was clean, bed linen was clean. Definitely not deep cleaned - there were some crisps behind my bedside table, but they weren't immediately obvious so can see how a cleaner on minimum wage with so many other rooms to clean would miss them. Service - there were quite a few staff knocking around. Our keycard wouldn't let us in to the kitchen but both times a staff member appeared when I needed to get in! I used the self check in, it was quick and easy to use, but the staff were still happy to answer my couple of questions. Elevators - there was one working. Heat - we had a big window, and were on the ground floor so we were okay, but I can imagine it being awfully hot in a bigger room/ one that's been in the sun all day. There wasn't an extractor fan in the bathroom so it did smell a little damp, but nothing awful. The sky bar was a nice edition, really lovely to be out in the open air. There was some very loud shouting at one point, but seemed very lads

⭐☆☆☆☆ (1/5) I had a bad experience from the moment I arrived. The reception staff were rude, not just to me but to other guests as well. I even witnessed a staff member raising their voice at a new customer who was asking for help, which created a very unwelcoming atmosphere. I requested a room change because of the poor condition of my first room. Although they changed it, the second room was no better. The room was old, untidy, and there was no air conditioning. The bathroom was also dirty and clearly not cleaned properly. The common lounge and restaurant area near the reception was always messy and didn’t seem to be maintained. I’m honestly surprised this hostel has such high ratings because my experience was nothing like the reviews suggested. I would rate it 1 out of 5, or even 0 if that were possible. I would not recommend staying here. A hostel should make your trip more enjoyable, not ruin it. There are many better options available, so I suggest choosing another place.

What an amazing hostel! I stayed here for one week, and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming. On Tuesdays and Fridays, there’s an amazing live show at the Sky Bar on the top floor. The singer, Anis, is very talented, and we even became friends. It was such a pleasure to meet so many kind and wonderful people during my stay. I will definitely come back next time and highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a great place to stay. Thank you to A&O Hostel and all the wonderful staff for making my stay so memorable!
