Scandalous service: fully paid car given away! Our flight was delayed. We had promptly notified the Sixt branch at Cologne Airport, and they reassured us that they would monitor our flight, wait for us until 12:30 AM, and that otherwise, they would reopen the following morning at 7:00 AM, keeping our reservation valid for 24 hours. ​As soon as we landed at 12:20 AM, we immediately emailed them to confirm we were on our way to the desk. Despite the car being fully paid for, the staff showed zero flexibility. Not only did they not wait for us—leaving us stranded past midnight and forcing us to find an emergency hotel near the airport—but the next morning they even refused to give us the car. The reason? They had taken other bookings during the night and were overbooked. ​Zero empathy, zero customer focus, and terrible service. Never again!

This was hands down one of the worst car rental experiences I have ever had. I booked a Mercedes E-Class for 3 days directly through the Sixt website and paid €423.75 upfront. When I arrived at the Maritim Hotel Köln location to pick up the vehicle, I was told there was no car available. No advance notice, no proper apology, and no real attempt to fix the situation. Instead, I was told to "try my luck" at other locations, including the railway station and airport. As a tourist, the last thing I wanted to do was waste my vacation running around the city looking for a car that I had already reserved and paid for. When I explained how unreasonable that was, the staff suggested that I cancel my booking and make a new reservation. Unsurprisingly, the prices had already increased significantly. Since the problem was entirely on Sixt's side, I asked them to provide a comparable vehicle at the same rate. The employee then called the airport location and assured me that I could pick up a BMW X5 for the same price I had originally paid. Whilst travelling we had a break down in Bonn and swapped our vehicle at this branch. The replacement was well coordinated with a few minor issue resolved by the extremely friendly and professional staff both over the phone and at the desk. We did unfortunately leave an item accidentally in the car and are having a rather challenging time navigating the centralised Sixt lost & found process. Would highly recommend paying a premium price to rent from Sixt, when things go wrong they are extremely good at resolving the issue. Just do yourself a favour and double check you haven’t left anything at the drop off.

⚠️ The vehicle we reserved was not provided, a non-equivalent replacement was offered, and the baby seat supplied was in unacceptable hygienic condition ⚠️ Reservation No: 9607466381 Our family had a very poor experience at the Sixt Cologne branch. Since we were travelling with a baby, we specifically reserved a Volkswagen Tayron because of its large luggage capacity. When we arrived at the branch, we were told that the vehicle was not available, and instead of offering an equivalent vehicle we were offered a BMW 5 Series as a “paid upgrade” for 119 EUR. When we refused to pay the additional fee, we were given a BYD Seal U. This vehicle has only 425 liters of trunk space, which is significantly smaller than the vehicle we reserved. It is clearly not an equivalent vehicle for a family travelling with a baby. As shown in the photos, our suitcases did not fit in the trunk. A large trunk was essential for our family with a baby and luggage, and none of the available vehicles were adequate equivalents to meet this need; therefore, the vehicle provided was unsuitable. At minimum, a BMW 5 Series with slightly larger trunk space than the Seal U should have been offered free of charge,
