Excellent assistant doctors (Dr E.). Was being transferred to this hospital from Hildegardis Hospital in winter 2023 as H.hospital assistant doctor could not provide further assistance after emergency paramedics "saved" me during a heart "episode" on an early Sunday A.M. There was a professional yet a little stern American-German nurse who did not talk down to a patient when one's German is not fluent as it has happened with some other health workers in Germany. Was told to undertake a surgery immediately to check if there is any blockage but I insisted to get a second opinion first. Dr E. asked me to sign a "release agreement" after consulting his supervisor (at his home). I was then told that the surgery was not urgently required but I must consult a Cardiologist ASAP and must eat a banana daily for enough potassium intake to avoid 230/minute heart beat. Overall, it was a pleasant and reassuring experience for a foreigner whose German is not over B2.1 standard.

I had only a minor issue compared to others, but needed reassurance and expertise for my issue. They were busy so I did have to wait but did not care too much. The team were really helpful and patient with my basic German but some of them spoke English very well. Overall, a very positive experience for me.

For months, I had severe lower abdominal pain. I went to numerous Doctors in Berlin who were unable to find the problem, telling me I was fine, misdiagnosing me for having IBS, and I was even turned away by a hospital for "wasting their time". After months of trying to unsuccessfully identify the problem, I finally by the grace of god, arrived at Severinsklöesterchen in Cologne on Thursday morning, the 25th of April. I was unable to sleep the previous night because of the unbearable pain, and in the morning, I vomited twice. When I arrived at the emergency room,  I was helped quickly. Dr. med. Frank Schaefer was able to determine through the use of an ultrasound and his expertise that my colon had an irregular pattern. He concluded that we needed to do a CT scan, which showed that the wall of my colon had thickened and that a colonoscopy must be carried out urgently. After the colonoscopy was completed it was clear to the doctors that I had a T3 tumour that was about to break out of my colon. I had an emergency operation on Friday night, the 26th of April. The tumour, as well as part of the colon, was successfully removed. The surgery went well, and I am making a good recovery. I

For parents-to-be considering this hospital, I highly recommend this place: Gave birth here (note: natural, without epidural/PDA) and it was a wonderful experience/ stay from the beginning to discharge thanks to all the amazing friendly and knowledgeable staff here. (special thanks and shoutout to my Kreißsaal hebamme JOHANNA she is the best from skills/knowledge to attitude/ personality :)) Everything from giving birth to bonding to your first pee to breastfeeding to diaper change etc was well assisted/ guided. Family room was also clean and nice - relatively new. Room for improvement: the dinners (abendsbrot quality could be improved e.g the tomato and champignon spreads should be changed - we couldn't take a second bite🙈) Note: parking can be tricky here. But we appreciated the temporary special parking during admission. For English speakers- we spoke German most of the time but there are staff who can speak English or at least try (eg in the Kreißsaal) but they are all very friendly :)) All in all highly recommended!

Apparently reviews bring nothing because I see that so many people wrote reviews about the staff of the emergency room are very unfriendly and rude and they are still working there behaving like this! The Quality management email seems useless! I have never treated so badly just because of having pain and having to go to an emergency room of a hospital! All the patients before and after me were allowed to go inside but foe my case suddenly it took them 2 hours to visit me because here is a Notaufnahme!! For everyone else it wasn’t the case! Please reconsider the description about being ethical and teach your staff how to behave with a patient!
