Reviewing this restaurant was an absolute joy. From the moment we stepped into this Brauhaus, we were greeted by staff who exemplify Cologne: traditional, witty, and incredibly friendly. The restaurant is wonderfully laid out, with plenty of space for groups of all sizes. During a short stay in Cologne, I ended up going to Gilden on three consecutive days because they ran different specials each day, and to call the food merely delicious would be an injustice, as they deliver quality consistently. Yes, schnitzel is the default, but I tried a different dish each time and was blown away. Even the desserts were excellent. But what I enjoyed most about Gilden were the patrons. Yes, the photo I took here shows an empty room, but don't let it fool you: outside was packed, as it was a wonderful summer's day. The atmosphere was warm, people enjoying themselves, deep in the kind of conversation that captures German social culture and in the right setting, it's mesmerizing. Gilden provides that setting, so leave your phone in your pocket. Just a head of warning: be mindful of the schnapps... it'll knock your socks off. Especially if you did not order it, and is given as a “pallet cleanser”

House-brewed crisp Gilden lager flows fresh from the tap, smooth and lightly malty, perfectly paired with hearty regional classics: tender hunter’s escalope, crispy schnitzel, giant grilled meat platters and fluffy fries. Portions are generously sized, pricing stays fair for the quality, and staff are friendly with solid English for visitors. It makes an ideal pre-cathedral or post-museum meal; book a table on weekends, as the lively dining room fills quickly.

We had such a great time. It wasnt just the food but the very very attentive and nice employee, Zeljko. He sees immediately that our drink needs a refill. We had fun eatinh and drinking. He was very fun and accommodating. The best brauhaus experience we had. Thank you Zeljko!

I don't think I could have chosen a better place where to have my solo dinner in Cologne! The food was rich, beautiful to look at and incredibly tasty. The portions were generous without being overwhelming. Staff was super accommodating and allowed me to get a taste of a second dish without having to order the full portion (which I would have never been able to eat alone) Not only they accepted the request for change but they didn't even charge me for that and barely accepted a tip in the end The atmosphere felt incredibly authentic I so much wish to be able to go there again and in general to find more places like this when I travel

Huge portions. You can easily order one portion for two people, and two portions are definitely enough for three. We didn’t like the schnitzel - it was way too thick. But the sauerbraten was very tasty, with large pieces of high-quality tender meat. Keep in mind that all salads come with a huge amount of dressing, which really spoils the fresh vegetables.
