On return, they billed me €387.80 for a 30mm scratch on the inside edge of the tailgate — a spot you literally cannot see unless the tailgate is open. I sent them a full-resolution photo with intact EXIF data: taken 24 July at 10:14, seventeen hours after pickup, at the very first spot where we opened the tailgate, proving we were not responsible for the alleged damage. Their response kept changing. First, my photos "didn't show a clear timestamp." I sent the original files with the EXIF intact. Then a screenshot of that same data "wasn't verifiable." When I finally sent the screenshot they asked for, they closed the case citing a date and time that doesn't match anything I ever sent them. Meanwhile, the €387.80 was forcefully taken from my card automatically, in the middle of a dispute I had opened in writing — my card had only ever been swiped to hold a deposit, never authorized for this charge. Unfortunately, our experience with this campervan rental was very disappointing. The water pump failed, which meant we had no running water for our trip. We couldn't use the sink, the indoor or outdoor shower, and we lost a large amount of time waiting for roadside assistance and repairs instead of enjoying our holiday. Despite the assistance provided, the water pump issue was never actually resolved during our rental. In the end, the campervan offered little more than a place to sleep—something a simple tent could have provided just as well. The only positive aspect of this experience was the customer support. I had a very disappointing experience with roadsurfer. I rented a camper from Berlin and drove it to Turin, Italy,m. At the time of pickup, existing damage on the vehicle was documented in the handover report. I also took photos and videos of the camper before starting my trip to make sure the condition of the vehicle was properly recorded. When I returned the camper , the vehicle was inspected by roadsurfer staff. About an hour later, I was informed that everything was fine and that my €800 security deposit would be returned. To my surprise, I received an invoice for €653.18 for alleged damage. The damage mentioned in the invoice was not caused during my rental period and had already been documented when I picked up the vehicle. I have evidence in the form of the handover report, photos, and videos taken on the pickup date. I contacted roadsurfer several times by email and phone, explained the situation, and provided evidence. Despite this, I was unable to obtain a satisfactory resolution or refund. One of the most disappointing travel experiences we've ever had – and extremely poor customer service from Roadsurfer. We rented a campervan from Roadsurfer in the US and faced numerous serious issues during our trip — some affecting safety, many impacting comfort and usability, and ultimately ruining what was supposed to be a special vacation. Here’s a brief overview of the issues we encountered: The battery did not charge while driving, making the van unusable off-grid and forcing us to limit our route significantly. The interior was in terrible condition: broken bed frame, missing closet handles, peeling wallpaper, uncovered electrical fixtures, filthy cupboards and seating, non-functional mosquito net, worn and dangerous furniture, etc. Safety issues like incorrect tire pressure (off by up to 10 PSI!), and a foul smell from the AC system likely due to mold or bacteria buildup. Missing or incomplete equipment (e.g., kitchen box, leveling blocks), which we had to purchase ourselves despite promises of reimbursement. 23 documented damages at pick-up, many more found during the trip. Stuck with a broken car, no replacement! As we speak my girlfriend and I are stuck on a parking spot near Londen witch a van from Belgium with German licence plates. We had one of the worst rental experiences imaginable with Roadsurfers. Our van broke down on the second day of our trip due to a serious brake fluid leak – a critical safety issue. From that moment on, we were completely stranded. Despite immediately reporting the problem, we were left sitting in a broken van for more than 24 hours with no proper support or solution. Roadsurfers kept hiding behind “procedures” and external partners, while refusing to take direct responsibility. We were told that no matter what happens, customers must wait at least two days before anything can be done. Even worse: if your van cannot be repaired, your holiday is simply over. They do not provide a replacement vehicle abroad, even though they present themselves as an international company and we are a one hour drive away from Roadsurfer London. At pickup we were only asked to check basic, visible items (interior, fuel, scratches). We are not mechanics, and we cannot be expected to detect hidden technical failures. Still, Roadsurfers
