Regensburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Regensburg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

One of the interesting statues you will see around the historic city centre of Regensburg is the bronze Equestrian statue of King Ludwig I of Bavaria at Domplatz facing St. Peter's Cathedral. This monument is the work of German sculptor Ferdinand von Miller the Younger (1901-02) and is of King Ludwig in regal attire. His right arm is lifted with scepter in hand as he holds his horse rein with his left and peers in the leftward direction. The statue stands upon a traditional stone pedestal with an inscription of his name. This is in interesting depiction of the Bavarian king who ruled from 1825 to 1848 and commissioned a Neo-Gothic renovation of the Cathedral during his reign. You can conveniently have a look at this particularly monument before or after your visit to St. Peter's.
