Passau is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

It was a great pleace to spend a night in transit, it has a good location on the Danube river side with Austria, the room was nice and very large, clean, great heating. Breakfast was ok and the staff amazing as well.

We stayed at Pension Gambrinus for 3 nights. The house was new renovated and very cozy. It is not close to town, but it's easy to get rid of the car in Passau's parking garages. The house is close to the Austrian border. There are several good restaurants, both in Austria but also in the direction of the city. Very good breakfast with homemade apricot jam.

Our room was quite big, comfortable and, most of all, very clean. The beds were made every day, which we didn't expect in a pension. Breakfast is ok, you can find marmalade, yogurt, cheese, eggs, cold cuts, tea and coffee; we especially liked apricot home made marmalade. The pension is not near town center, but one can reach the town by bus in about 10 minutes (a little less by car); bus stop it's 2 minutes away by feet. It's also near to Austrian border, where you can find a cheap gas station. The surroundings are very quiet.
