About LETTL-Museum für surreale Kunst

The exhibition is curated by Wolfgang Lettl's son who provided much fascinating detail about his father's life and work. As mentioned, the tablet in German and English is also very informative. I found Lettl's work fascinating and often striking. The excellently laid out museum display is well worth a visit and is conveniently situated near Augsburg's historic centre.

This is a small art museum situated along Zeuggasse, celebrating the life and works of local surrealist artist Wolfgang Lettl (1919-2008). Opening times are 1pm to 5pm (Tues to Fri), 11am to 5pm (Sat & Sun), closed on Mondays. Entry is €7 per adult. Within the museum, you will be able to view around 120-130 of Letti's works which rotate from the collection of around 500 works held. As part of your visit, you are given an audio handset. Each work on display includes a number which you can input into the device for the purpose of learning about the individual artwork or at times some interesting aspects about his life. The museum experience is very good, particularly if you enjoy abstract and surreal artworks. The audio guide presenting very helpful input and learning experience to, especially for those of us less or unfamiliar with Lettl and the mark he left on the 20th-century German art world.

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience visiting the LETTL-Museum für surreale Kunst. From the moment we arrived, we were completely mesmerized by the artwork and the immersive audio guides that brought every piece to life in such a thoughtful and engaging way. One of the featured artists was my persona favourite painter Lettl, and what made our visit especially memorable was that we were guided by his son, who generously took the time to walk us through not only his father’s works, but also the other artists featured in the museum. His passion, knowledge, and personal insights added so much depth to the experience and made us appreciate the art on a completely different level. We felt incredibly welcomed and cared for throughout our visit. The attention, warmth, and enthusiasm we received made the entire experience feel personal and unforgettable. As a beautiful final touch, we were even gifted a couple of prints, which was such a kind and meaningful gesture. We left feeling moved, grateful, and already hoping to come back someday. Highly recommended to anyone who loves art and meaningful cultural experiences.

Extremely inspiring experience. No waiting line Student discount Free audio guide The gallery features around 100 surrealist and impressionist artworks, and for almost each piece there is a short introduction, reflection, or explanation that helps visitors fully understand and appreciate the artist’s vision. Artist Florian Lettl personally welcomes guests and guides them through the exhibition. All the sculptures in the gallery are his own creations, while all the paintings are by his father, Wolfgang. This unique family dialogue between sculpture and painting makes the visit even more special, creating a powerful and emotional artistic journey. He also speaks Italian very well, and after learning that I am Italian, he kindly shared many fascinating details and personal stories about his life and his father’s, throughout different moments of the visit; always helpful, engaging, and present, yet never intrusive! Thank you for the great experience ❤️
