München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Today we visited an on-call pediatrician. The doctor scolded me and my husband like we were children for not speaking German, asking how many years I’ve lived in Munich, and so on throughout the entire visit. Then he simply stopped addressing me and spoke only to my husband, asking things like, “Is your wife breastfeeding?” Hello, I’m still here. And how many languages do you speak, doctor? I speak three. I’ve invested hundreds of hours and thousands of euros into learning German with a private tutor and reached a B2 level. But when my seven-month-old baby has a fever of 39 (and it rose to nearly 40 once we got home), finding the right words in a language I don’t yet speak perfectly is not exactly my priority. These comments and questions were completely inappropriate—especially after I politely asked at the beginning if the doctor could speak with us in English, adding that if not, I could continue in German. The doctor also kept interrupting, making it difficult to say anything. Perhaps there would have been no need to interrupt or rush if the conversation had focused strictly on medical matters. I also regret that I stayed polite, smiled, and didn’t push back during the visi

Człowiek jednak oczekuje troszkę czegoś innego jadąc do lekarza.....
