Choosing a practice, dentist or pharmacy is about trust and convenience: check the opening hours, whether the practice takes new patients (most want a Termin, booked by phone or through Doctolib), whether it treats statutory (gesetzlich) as well as private patients, and whether the staff speak English. Bring your Versichertenkarte; without cover you pay the full amount. Outside surgery hours dial 116 117 for the on-call doctor, and in an emergency 112 for an ambulance.
Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are Open 24 hours. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 0841 8800. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. More information is available on its website, klinikum-ingolstadt.de.
Its Google rating stands at 2.9 out of 5 from 899 reviews, which is below average for the category; consider the recent reviews carefully before visiting.
Ingolstadt is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Ingolstadt is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

I was recently a patient on Ward 50 at Klinikum Ingolstadt for spinal surgery (disc issue at C6/7), and I can't thank the team here enough. Before the surgery, I was in a lot of pain and barely sleeping, but the doctors planned and performed the operation with real skill and care. Since waking up, I've been completely pain-free, and I'm going home today feeling like myself again. The nursing staff and everyone on the ward were incredibly kind and attentive throughout my stay, even during the harder moments. I'm truly grateful to the whole team — doctors, nurses, and staff at Klinikum Ingolstadt — for everything they did for me. Highly recommend this hospital for anyone needing spinal care. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Dysfunctional system. Makes you wait for 5 hours, and still you do not get to meet the doctors. Utter failure.

My stay here was about 4 weeks until I was released back home. I stayed at station 28 because of an acute personal crisis and suicidal thoughts. When I arrived I had to wait around 5-6 hours in the emergency entry, but since I had Caritas volunteer with me I didn't mind too much. The staff was understanding, patient and made the therapies very pleasant. The hospital food was quite good and the provided therapies were plentiful and good. Overall I feel like the 4 weeks really really helped me and the staff did everything in their power so I would feel better. If I had to stay at a hospital again, I would go here anytime.

Very mixed treatment at this hospital. At first I arrived here in the midle of the night almost not able to walk or talk. the front door was full of paramedics and other hospital workers that could not care less for my condition. All they could was to show me the right way. But to stop to smoke or look into their phones to help someone that could barely walk was too much for them. I was then treated very kindly by the doctors and nurses at the emergency but when I was transfered for treatment. The night shift nurses are mega rude. we got a meal at 17:00, but at around 22:00 i was hungry and feeling a very strong burn in my stomach. The nurse told that the last meal was served at 17:00 and I should have eaten. It was 30+ degrees outside and the room has almost zero ventilation. They should sort better their staff and really consider an empathy course as a requisite. working at a hospital and having zero empathy is not a good combo.

I think unsatisfied people write reviews more often than happy people, but the Klinikum Ingolstadt does not deserve such a bad reputation, at least according to my experience. I have given birth twice there (June 2016 and April 2019) and all the Hebamme, Doctors, Nurses, cleaning ladies have always been very friendly, professional and took very good care of us. I had easy births, so I cannot judge them in case of emergencies, but we were happy the first time, came back the second one and would go there again. We also had some experience in the Emergency room, both for me and for my first daughter. Waiting times can be long, especially for not so severe situations, but we were always treated well. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but it's a good hospital!
