About Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte - Museum

Regensburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Regensburg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Very modern museum in the city centre. It was interesting and free on the day I visited.

While the museum itself was fairly interesting, I still can’t get over the way German people stare at you in public, it’s quite threatening and definitely ruins the museum experience. Another point is the fact that I had to lock my tiny handbag in a locker ‘Incase it knocked anything over’ even though most things had glass protection. This museum also has far too many security guards who are obviously very bored with the quietness of the days, I had one young security guard walk really slowly near my boyfriend and I and then passive aggressively knocked on the information text next to the metal boat we were looking at shown in the exhibition. Would NOT RECOMMEND. They need to have a serious word with their staff about staring and walking slowly behind customers.

Magnificent museum! While the modern style of the building might feel a little weird, especially since there's medieval buildings all around the museum, I do think it's a nice building. Upon entering, you're greeted by the iconic Bavarian lion in a room which reminds me of the entrance to the Getty Center. On the second floor, there's the main exhibit: A huge display of Bavarian culture, starting in the 18th century until now. There's a part for nearly every aspect of Bavaria and there are also many interactive exhibits, which were fun as well! For everyone wanting to get to know more about the history of Bavaria and its customs, I highly recommend visiting this museum!

We went there on Sunday with our baby. It was really nice if you really like history. But it's so boring for our baby. It's really not child friendly. The building has elevator, which is helpful for our stroller.

Excellent museum. Every first Sunday like today and also because of the Regensburg Marathon the entrance was free. Very interesting place with many different exhibitions, temporary like one on Emperor Kaiser Ludwig I but also the permanent on the history of Baviera and its many facets as you can see clearly from the pictures, from Napoleonic wars to the different emperors, to sports or political life in the state, different experiences with politics or Nazism, literature or other cultural practices. It seems to me that it gives a very good and complete picture of what Bavaria is and was and of its many faces like a huge mosaic. Also well designed for kids, families and it has for everyone something. Also accessible for handycapped persons, has a library, lockers and a restaurant is next to it with a nice terrace.
