Nürnberg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Nürnberg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

The Fünfeckturm, or Five-Cornered Tower, is part of Nuremberg’s imperial castle fortifications and dates back to the early 13th century. Its unusual pentagonal shape made it easier to defend compared to standard square towers, a reflection of medieval military engineering. Today it stands as one of the oldest surviving sections of the castle complex, offering a striking reminder of the city’s strategic importance in the Holy Roman Empire.

preserved from the Burggrafenburg: The pentagonal tower built around 1192 , which was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. its so nice to walk around and see how they used to build towers back then. not open for visits. although it gaves splendid view.
