Cathedral Square (Domplatz) is located on the hillside to the west of the rest of the historic city centre of Bamberg. It is the location of important sightseeing including Neue Residenz and Bamberg Cathedral. You can also visit the restored Alte Hofhaltung and see the interesting Trautmannsmauer wall and Fortunata Fountain at Domplatz as well.

A stunning place to view the city. Incredibly grant architecture including the beautiful Dom and museum.

Nice place and interesting architecture. The fact that cars traverse the place frequently sadly destroys the pedestrian experience.

The place is constantly getting renovated so you can see the changes everytime you visit. The staff and information counter folks were very helpful. When there are too many tours going on it can get a bit noisy so try and avoid those times.

Centrally located square from where the major landmarks of Bamberg are accessible - the monumental Cathedral, Old Courtyard with half-timbered houses and stunning New Residence with its Rose garden. Great starting point for exploring Bamberg! I only give 3 stars because there is no seating, no benches, nowhere to relax and enjoy the beauty of surrounding buildings. Also for the fact the square is not 100% pedestrian. There is a road running diagonally through the square with surprisingly a lot of traffic (I remember waiting for quite some time before being able to take pictures with no cars or buses). It is distracting, annoying and frankly a bit dangerous. In my opinion cars simply don't belong to the historical city center! Visited in July 2022.
