Stayed here for Gamescom! Had the quadruple room, comfy bunk beds, private bathroom. The continental breakfast is fantastic, 10 min walk to the cathedral and 8 min walk to Koelnmesse. The railway station is also directly outside with lots of restaurants in the area.

I stayed for one night and was very satisfied. The room & bedsheets were clean, staff was nice, and breakfast offered a variety of things (both savory and sweet). City center was accessible in a 15-minute walk. However in the morning when the sun started to hit the window, the room immediately became very hot (between 7 and 9am, even though it was only 12°C outside, I was sweating in the room). I think it's probably a very bad place to stay during a heat wave, as the windows do not open fully. Otherwise I would happily stay in this hostel again if I ever go back to Cologne.

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm in July during the heatwave. The rooms are clean with showering facilities inside the room and they are of a good standard. However there is no AC and the rooms are like a sauna. I went to reception to ask for a fan but they don't have any for the rooms. I was simply told to 'enjoy the weather'. This seemed very strange, it's like they're not even aware of how hot the rooms are. If you're travelling in summer I wouldn't recommend the dorm, unless you're okay with a really hot and stuffy room. Breakfast is included in the rather high price and is a basic German style buffet with all you can eat bread and processed slices of meat, juices, tea and coffee. If you're European you might not mind this, but as a Brit, I prefer eggs n bacon rather than a carb fest. This is also a 'youth' hostel so there were lots of young kids on school trips here. They seemed well behaved and it didn't cause any problems. I'd actually stay here again if they provided some AC as the location is really good and just a 10 minute walk across the bridge to old town.

Very impressed with this youth hostel and it surpasses many hotels I've stayed in. I'd booked a private, en suite room, and it was excellent. Clean, well-presented and I commented how well housekeeping had done. There was building work adjacent to the hostel (Nov 2025) so it was noisy with the window open, but they didn't work at night, and with the window closed the room was soundproofed. The hostel reception was also undergoing a renovation, but the staff were coping admirably. Breakfast buffet was huge and well laid out. The hostel is only a short 10-min walk from the city centre, main railway station and cathedral. The walk over the river bridge is especially nice - though keep your wits about you for the cyclists hurtling by. Really enjoyed my stay here and I'm sure it won't be my last visit.
