Eating out in Germany runs from a quick Döner at an Imbiss to a long evening in a Gasthaus, and a listing like this one is best judged on freshness, turnover and how consistent the reviews are rather than on decor. Lunch menus (Mittagstisch) are usually the best value, menu prices already include 19% VAT and service, and many kitchens close between lunch and dinner. Bakeries open early and are the one shop you can count on for a Sunday morning.

Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11:30 am–3 pm. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 089 51553888. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is dingshang.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 264 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinesisch in München and suggests consistent service.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

After two years, I decided to give it another try, especially after seeing all the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the beef dish was a miss. The beef was extremely chewy and clearly hadn’t been cooked long enough to become tender. I tried several pieces but eventually left almost all of the meat. At €20, that was a real disappointment. I really like Szechuan food and would happily come here more often — and I’m also willing to pay these prices if the quality is there. But after this experience, it will probably be quite a while before I give it another try. One positive: they still serve drinks in proper 0.5L glasses instead of the increasingly common 0.4L ones.

Never got to taste the food. Booked a table and arrived at the correct time. The table given was crammed next to a large group. Every time the waiter passed they hit the chair of one of us. We waited 20 minutes and were not even offered a drink. Meanwhile two other tables arrived and were served first. We are always polite so no idea why this happened, except that we were the only non German speakers and there was no English menu. We tried to attract the attention of the waiter but failed! So eventually left!.

As a Singaporean living in Munich, I was over the moon to have discovered Dingshang. The restaurant is managed by a team of Chinese that know their food. We arrived as a party of two without reservations for lunch on a Sunday and we didn’t have to queue. We ordered the duck noodles, duck blood & pork intestine soup, and Sichuan pork ribs and found each dish dish perfectly cooked and seasoned — I generally find food in Germany to be far too salty so the perfect seasoning at Dingshang was a lovely surprise. The noodles had wonderful wok hey and the blood was springy with a nice bite. I hope Dingshang stays open for a long time so I may return time and time again.

Awesome authentic Chinese food. There’s some good ones in Munich and this is one of them. One gripe: the Sichuan dry pork ribs were a bit fatty, way more than other places where I had this exact dish. The service was very good, but slightly fishing for a good review. Atmosphere: there’s a part of the restaurant that is unfinished, rest is perfect: just keep that in mind for official dinners & dates. So why the 5 stars? This is one of the good authentic places, and newer. They actually care about offering authentic dishes and staff was very friendly. I trust the small gripes will be resolved soon. Can highly recommend.

Great restaurant with very good food. The service is quick and friendly, and the prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity. The duck was delicious, as was the chicken wok. The eggplant had a very well-balanced flavor. All the dishes were perfectly seasoned with the right amount of salt.
