Würzburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The Ceres Fountain was created by sculptor Balthasar Heinrich Nickel (1783) and has been located at a couple of different places around the city during its lifespan. Since 1945 it has been placed in its present location at the corner of Neubaustraße & Schönthalstraße. What you see is marble statue of Ceres. The goddess of fertility stands while holding a bundle of harvested corn in her right arm. A small child sits to her left. The statue stands upon a pedestal from which there is a lion head with a spout which spills into a small basin below. It is an interesting fountain mountain that seems to have designed for a grain & straw market in the late 18th century. Worth a quick look-see if passing by during visits to Würzburg.
