When booking accommodation or travel services in Germany, confirm the check-in window, whether the rate includes breakfast and the local city tax (Kurtaxe or Bettensteuer), and what the cancellation terms are; pensions and Gasthöfe are often family-run and appreciate notice. Reviews that mention noise, bed size, Wi-Fi and cleanliness are usually the most useful. Prices jump around trade fairs, the Christmas markets, Oktoberfest and the summer school holidays, so book early for those dates.

Opening hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 8 am–4 pm. Note that it does not open on Sunday. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Its Google rating stands at 2.2 out of 5 from 45 reviews, which is below average for the category; consider the recent reviews carefully before visiting.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

This agency overcharged me by more than €800 by editing invoices with false dates to justify a fake delay in returning the vehicle. Take photos of all your return receipts (fuel, parking ticket for the return, etc.). To this day, there has been no refund or apology—it’s a disgrace to the company’s image.

I was badly scammed with no recourse from Budget's customer service. At the time of picking up, the representative sold me their insurance coverage and falsely presented what were actually optional add-ons (i.e. roadside assistance), as included features of the coverage. He repeatedly told me that €200 of the coverage was a deposit and that this would be returned to my credit card. When I called Budget after returned and when no deposit was returned, I was informed that this was because of the optional add-ons I "chose to accept" that were charged against the deductible. When I filed a formal complaint over this fraud, I never heard back. AVOID THIS COMPANY.

A horrible experience, classic ‘computer says no’ moment. I had emailed to ask to pick up the car 3 hours earlier than originally booked, and I was told yes, but upon arrival, Melissa wanted to charge me 900 euro for the extra 3 hours. I offered to drop the car back early so the time was made up at the other end, but that was not possible either. Inflexible and disappointing. Would not recommend.

We rented a luxury Volvo SUV, and were surprised by the added expense of a cross-border permit for entering Austria -- this was not mentioned when reserving the vehicle, and that our insurance provider was not accepted. These extra costs which we were required to accept cost more than 5 times the original rental price. As soon as we drove out of the parking area, we received an error message that the windshield wiper fluid was empty. This was irritating for a vehicle of this value, and it did prove problematic soon after driving away, when windshield washer fluid was really needed for clean windshields on the Autobahn. When dropping off the vehicle as per the agents instructions at the time of renting, we found that the original numbered parking place was occupied and there were no other Budget marked stalls to park as an alternative. A man walked up with no identification and no uniform, and asked us to simply hand him the key. I said that I was instructed to put the key in the dropbox, but he said he was the one in charge of returned vehicles. I asked him for identification, but he had none. He said I would have to wait a long while for a supervisor to arrive if I did not give
