About Babelfish Hostel
Babelfish Hostel is a hotel in Würzburg, Bayern. It is listed at Haugerring 2, 97070 Würzburg-Altstadt, which places it among the local businesses of Würzburg that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as hostel, so it may cover more than the name suggests.
When booking accommodation or travel services in Germany, confirm the check-in window, whether the rate includes breakfast and the local city tax (Kurtaxe or Bettensteuer), and what the cancellation terms are; pensions and Gasthöfe are often family-run and appreciate notice. Reviews that mention noise, bed size, Wi-Fi and cleanliness are usually the most useful. Prices jump around trade fairs, the Christmas markets, Oktoberfest and the summer school holidays, so book early for those dates.
Opening hours have not been published for this listing yet. Most businesses of this type in Würzburg keep standard hours, but call ahead to be sure, especially on the weekly Ruhetag, on Sundays and over the Christmas and Easter holidays. The listed phone number is 0931 3040430. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. More information is available on its website, babelfish-hostel.de.
With 4.2 out of 5 on Google from 755 reviews, it sits in the middle of the range for hotels in Würzburg. German customers tend to review sparingly and critically, so a mid-range score with detailed comments is often a fair picture.
Würzburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Würzburg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

It's not the Ritz but the prices aren't either. The double room was clean and quiet most of the time. A little hot water in the shower would be nice.

It is opposite the Würzburg Hauptbahnhof. Best for short term stays. Rooms are for 8 or 4 persons depending on your budget. But as a foreigner who just entered Germany, it was relatively affordable for me and I even made a few friends immediately by just sharing rooms with them.

Seeing as it seems there's only one other hostel in Würzburg, this one can get away with charging exorbitant rates due to there not being much — if any — competition. 35€ for a bed in a 10-person dorm with dated facilities is ridiculous. I've stayed in significantly better hostels for only 10€ per night. If this one were cheaper i'd have sucked it up and not complained, but I do feel quite ripped-off. The location is most convenient, although it can be loud at times. People congregate in front of the hostel late at night, and the sound travels into the room. You're also woken up pretty often due to the train station, and the roar of ambulances driving by. It's not a particularly social hostel — much more working-class. Staying alongside students, homeless, and security guards. Nobody really acknowledged each other throughout my stay, and the common areas were quite vacant. So if that's what you're looking for, not here! All of that being said, if you want to avoid paying twice as much for a hotel and need to stay in Würzburg, it'll be fine. It's the bare necessities. But don't expect anything, and know that it's overpriced for the facilities you get.
