For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.

Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–10 pm. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 0941 88080. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is altelinde-regensburg.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 3,302 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded deutsche & regionale küche in Regensburg.

Regensburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Regensburg is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

We had asked a local store manager for a recommendation for authentic German food but not "touristy," and she recommended Alte Linda. We are so glad she did. The atmosphere for outside seating was lovely and shady in an area right on the Danube River so we could gaze at the old city across the river as we sat and relaxed. The food was plentiful and very good. We each had a different kind of schnitzel, mine with paprika and my husband's with a mushroom sauce. We each thought ours was the best. Their spaetzel was the best that I've tried so far as was their apple strudel. They also had an excellent non-alcoholic beer, which was a fun addition for me. Can you tell I would highly recommend this place for a great meal? We could definitely hear the music from the beer garden on a parallel street, but it didn't spoil the atmosphere. I was thankful I wasn't there.

Outstanding Apple Strudel. The schnitzel was very tasty but a little tough. The noodles were perfect in texture and taste. Service is great and the menu is available by QRcode. We sat under the shade trees for a perfect meal. We highly recommend the walk over the stone bridge for a truly authentic German meal and Pilsner beer.

The views of the city at the outside seating area are beautiful here. You can literally sit and eat, chat and turn your head towards the beautiful lights of the city next to you. There a childrens play area and plenty of room to move if your child needs to walk around abit. The food is well done and deserves a good rating because its cooked just how you imagine a hot hearty meal to be served. Stop by if your in the area!

A traditional Bavarian restaurant located on the Danube with a beautiful view of the old town. We had schnitzel with Spätzle and schnitzel with potato salad – both dishes were delicious and very filling. The dark beer was excellent and matched the meal perfectly. An ideal place to try Bavarian cuisine in Regensburg! 🍺

Lovely historical pub restaurant on one of the islands with amazing outdoor seating under the old trees with great views across the river towards the old stone bridge and historic part of town. The food is vary traditional Bavarian with all the usuals like pork and sauerkrat or pork schnitzels and looked to perfection. Great local beers on tap. There are no reservations so you have to float around and grab a table as it comes free during busy times but we'll worth the wait and only took us about 15min on a hot summers evening in peak holiday period.
