OFF Broadway Kino

I went yesterday to the afternoon premiere of Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film is excellent and I highly recommend it to everyone. Unfortunately, the screening conditions in this cinema were very poor. The screen quality is not exactly world-class, but still acceptable. The real problem, however, was the sound system—it was extremely bad and dragged the images down. What’s disappointing is that a large part of the film relies on its outstanding sound design in post-production, which elevates the visuals into a truly cinematic experience. In this cinema, though, we felt as if a big part of that experience was missing. I hope they address this issue soon, and I’m confident they will, because the cinema itself has great potential.

My favourite cinema in Cologne. The best movie selection, in particular with OmU. Excellent location close to nice restaurants and cafes.

We went to watch a Brazilian movie that had just won the Oscar, and we loved the movie theatre just a bit upsetting that I had my kosher snack and they didn’t allow me to enter with it, and I had to leave it at the reception, for me was a bit awkward and so don’t forget that they do not allow outside snacks into the theatre. They do sell beer and other random things at the cafeteria though.

Charming little cinema. The entrance is down a leafy lane, very nice ambience. No popcorn, but there was icecream and there were crisps and snacks. The screen was bigger than expected for a small cinema and the sound was good. The film was Napoleon - that was the only disappointment.

The cinema itself is nice and cozy. but for me, having no popcorn in a cinema is a deal breaker. Plus, the seats are not inclined, so if an average tall German male sits infront of you, you won't see a big part of the screen.
