Sometimes they are nice, specially the young woman on the right who is always kind and helpful. But the others seem to be overworked and underpaid maybe? Make sure you do your research of what documents you need and what for, and if these people can actually help you. They don’t like answering basic questions or guiding you. Maybe they see it as a waste of their time. Also, their rules change within months or maybe some workers do things in a way and others in another? … and it is expected of regular citizens to know this beforehand. Go there with your best energy and mindset and don’t let their disrespect ruin your day.

I came here to help my mother extend her tourist visa. She is stranded here — war broke out in her home country and there are no flights back. We had no choice but to come to this office. I arrived at 8:00 in the morning. I was not seen until 12:30. When the officer finally called us, she clapped her hands in front of my face and told me she did not have time. She was aggressive, dismissive, and loud. I had waited over four hours. I had done nothing wrong. I was calm and respectful throughout. That moment — a official clapping her hands in my face — is something I have not been able to forget. On top of this: there is no working way to get an appointment. Phones go unanswered. No online availability. Yet without an appointment they will not see you. I came back a second time on a day when no appointment needed and was still not let in. It is a system designed to exhaust people until they give up. I also personally witnessed what appeared to be differential treatment at the entrance — certain nationalities were let through while others were turned away with rude explanation. The Ausländeramt is trash here. They make you feel like a burden for being an immigrant. No easy way to communicate and no easy way for work renewal when my work has the contract ready and just needs their approval. You will lose your job and money because of their inadequate handling. Unless you make an appointment 6 months before you lose your job.

For the EU drivers licence conversion it was efficient. Booked appointment yesterday for today, brought all required documents and photo, it was called 25mins late but otherwise excellent. You go straight to waiting room, they call numbers via the screen and the Staff sorted my German licence on the spot.
