We visited Volksgarten in a bit of a heatwave in late July 2026 on a warm Tuesday evening. It was popular and there were groups of friends and faienjoying the surrounding park as well as the Biergarten. The park is beyond the alte stadt and so probably beyond where most tourists venture. Certainly my feelings was that it was that we were the only non-Cologners visiting. Having said that everyone was friendly and my poor German was welcomed with good English. You take a seat and are served drinks before ordering and paying for any food you want at a kiosk. I was pleasantly surprised to see vegetarian and even vegan food choices available, as well as more traditional German fare. It is well worth the walk out, not just of itself, but because it takes you a bit beyond what a visitor to the city might usually see.

Lovely weather and place to have a walk and feed your eyes with greenery. Unfortunately the bond was under construction. You can enjoy reading a book under the trees, walk your pet or just meditate. For me, a walk is enough to heal myself from life's distractions.

Nice and clean park . Very open space with barbecue opportunities, and kids playing zone . Lakes to rent a boat, table tennis zones and mane green zones with people laying down on green grass or simply having Picknick… nice for summer outing, not all visitors clean as they go, let’s keep Cologne clean…
