München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

i never thought i’d leave a bookstore in tears, but here we are i’ve been to the Readery many times, always buying 10+ books, and i know that the owner is not an easy guy. i tried not to pay attention to it because i come for the books, my native language is english, and i don’t like overconsumption, so i really liked the idea of the store. today i came in to exchange books for points for the first time, and he YELLED at me that i didn’t make a prior appointment. i didn’t know about the rules, my bad, but he didn’t have to yell at me, and could’ve just said that i should come next time. instead, he angrily said that they assign the value to the books that weren’t bought in the store. and apparently, Dostoyevsky’s Idiot, Coe’s My Proof of Innocence, and a book about Trump — all in pristine condition — are worth €1.5 (total) at the Munich Readery. The original worth of these books are over €40. I am a journalist, editor, and a book blogger. I’m not going to call him out publicly on my page, but I am leaving the comment here. I don’t understand why he’s so hostile, and unfortunately this was my last visit ever to that place. i’m going to order from Berlin’s Saint George’s Secon

My 7 year old and I popped in for the first time yesterday and we were there for about an hour. She was looking through all the choices and we had a chair to sit in and discuss what she would like to bring home. It’s a very inviting shop with many choices organized neatly by genre. We ended up purchasing 6 books to read together and are making plans to return. Highly recommend

The Munich Readery is a book lover’s paradise! The bookstore offers a huge variety of books across all genres, making it easy to find something for every taste. The cozy sofas add to the charm, creating a perfect space to relax and enjoy reading.

I just came here for the first time today. I love buying books on my travels, and this place is exactly what I'm looking for. Not only do they have a quality selection of books (of all genres!), but they've made the space incredibly cozy with seats available throughout the store to simply sit and read. Best of all was Emma, the resident doggo. She was so sweet and calm, and every time the door opened she would get excited to see who it was. I love shops like this. Why can't we all bring our dogs to work? What a better world it would be.
