About Taverna Kalypso

Modernes griechisches Restaurant in hellem, familiärem Ambiente mit Lavasteingrill und gemütlicher Terrasse

Taverna Kalypso is a griechisch in München, Bayern. It is listed at Agnesstraße 8, 80801 München-Schwabing-West, which places it among the local businesses of München that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.

Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 6 pm–12 am. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 089 20038686. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is kalypso.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 2,430 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded griechisch, türkisch & mediterran in München.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Food... oh so Good! & don't forget to make a reservation :) We had an incredible dining experience at Kalypso and were grateful they could still accommodate us despite being late for our reservation, thank you team. Their menu is straightforward, the best of Greek food and everything we had was absolutely delicious- the Souvlaki, kalypso teller, pommes, pita with garlic. The meat was so well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Their pricing for the portions and flavour feels very reasonable. The restaurant itself has both indoor and outdoor seating, and they are both quite spacious. On a Sunday evening at opening time they were half full so I would 💯 recommend reservation to get the best seat of choice. All of their staff were very friendly and responsive. They offered everyone a plate of watermelon slices to beat the heat which I found to be very thoughtful of them.

In November we had a birthday celebration we also brought a big birthday cake but suddenly it fell down. But everyone in Kalypso was extremely helpful and they literally created a new cake with chocolate. I would say this team has a great crisis management capability. We also really love the food and mezes here. We will definitely come again!

Despite being a weekday, the place was very crowded. Making a reservation in advance is a must. The ambiance was great, and the portions were large. We ordered sole fish and a mixed meze platter—both were delicious. The staff was friendly and welcoming. However, the tables were very close to each other. We were two people sitting next to a group of six, with only about 10-15 cm of space between tables. It felt like we were sharing the same table. I’d recommend they reconsider the seating arrangement for a more comfortable dining experience.

The food was awesome, and the service was quick. We ordered two dishes and fries, and it was more than enough for us. I heard that the restaurant is usually packed, so we made a reservation before going. That was a good idea because the place was full when we arrived. They gave us two free shots of some aromatic liquor before we ordered and watermelon at the end. It was a nice touch. Overall, we had a great time at the restaurant. We'll definitely go back again.

The food was very delicious and well prepared, lots of options in the menu. The friendliest staff, very attentive. The location is fantastic, there is a large outdoors seating area, however you need to make a reservation in advance. We did not have a reservation during a busy long weekend, they still managed to get us a table inside for a large group, also some ouzo to welcome us! Very well priced, loved our evening at Kalypso!
