München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in München, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

Although the museum had already closed when we arrived, visiting the Staatliche Antikensammlungen in the evening turned out to be a wonderful experience. The beautiful classical architecture creates a peaceful and inviting atmosphere, especially on a pleasant summer night. Many people were sitting on the broad steps in front of the museum, chatting and enjoying the cool evening air. A small group of dancers had gathered near the entrance, playing music and practicing various dance styles. Their enthusiasm added a lively and joyful spirit to the square. Across the plaza, people relaxed on the grass in front of the neighboring museum, while the historic city gate stood majestically nearby, reminding visitors of Munich’s rich cultural heritage. We walked here from our hotel and found the temperature perfect for an evening stroll. Even without entering the museum, this was one of our favorite experiences in Munich. It was a wonderful place to sit, relax, people-watch, and enjoy the local atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Munich, especially on a warm summer evening.

Not so popular as the Glyptothek across the square but packed with artefacts, ceramics, bronze, gold and precious gems. In the lower level you will find displayed one of the most beautiful Fayum mummy portraits.

There’s not much to see compared to other museums in the city. The exhibition space feels somewhat limited, and if you’re expecting large statues or grand displays, you might be disappointed. For those deeply interested in ancient ceramics and smaller artifacts, it could be worth a visit. However, if you’re looking for a more extensive collection of classical art, the Glyptothek across the square—focused on ancient sculptures—might be a better option, like the one opposite.

The collection is excellent, first class. My only problem was I could hear, throughout the first floor of the museum, the ladies in the ticket desk chatting all the time. The building itself obviously creates this effect, so at the end of my visit I pointed out to the laddies that they should be chatting in lower voice. I tried to be polite, one of them was really upset, to the point of being rude... unpleasant experience....

In fact, it is a very interesting museum, there are many different historical exhibits, among which are ceramic, gold and glass goods. Statues, and so on and so forth. And it so happened that we got to the museum when the entrance ticket cost only 1 euro(Sunday). So in general, I would even give the highest rating ... but I can’t ... and I don’t want to. Why? In the museum you need to leave a backpack and outerwear at the entrance. And this is either simple open hangers at the entrance (not boxes like in other museums where we were), for which no one is responsible, or you need to pay 1 euro to the cloakroom worker. One damn euro to hang a jacket, and no alternative. I was enraged by the whole vacation in Germany with that “pay 1 euro here, pay 1 euro there”.
