For public services in Bayern, confirm which office handles your matter and what to bring before you travel, since the Bürgeramt, the Ausländerbehörde and the Finanzamt deal with different paperwork. Stations and airports post timetables on site and in the DB Navigator app, and it is wise to allow extra time at the start of the school holidays and around Christmas, when the whole country is on the move.
The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 7:30 am–1 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is 089 23396010. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is stadt.muenchen.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Its Google rating stands at 2.0 out of 5 from 2,260 reviews, which is below average for the category; consider the recent reviews carefully before visiting.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I have never had such a disappointing experience with a public office. I visited the Ausländerbehörde because it has become nearly impossible to get an appointment by phone. I asked the security staff for help, and they directed me to a QR code and explained how to book an appointment. I followed their instructions exactly. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told that it had been booked incorrectly and that I would have to start the process all over again. No one acknowledged that I had simply followed the instructions I had been given. I then went to the correct department (1st floor, Section 15) just to politely confirm where I was supposed to go. There were around six employees in the office, but only two were assisting people at the counters. Since there was no reception desk or information point, I approached the counter and politely said, “Sorry, I just have one quick question.” Before I could even finish, I was interrupted and told, very rudely, that I shouldn’t be there. I asked, “Where should I go if I only have a question?” Instead of answering, one employee asked whether I had an appointment. I said yes, and they simply replied, “Then wait for your turn,” while

Being an immigrant in Germany feels like you're being punished by God for your sins. You have to wait for almost a year to get your permanent residency, nobody answers your questions, emergency appointment are never available on the website. I don't know how it's humanely possible for you to be this incompetent and useless.

Totally disappointed. I submitted my application on 31 march for job change. However I still didn't get any response from them yet. I am trying to book emergency appointment every day before 10 minutes of opening unfortunately appointment also not available totally disgusting. My employer force me to get update as soon because otherwise they will withdraw my application. Official status mention processing time 10 to 12 week however today is 23 June it's over 12 week I still didn't get any response. We are in 2026 they must improve processing system. Because some international employees struggling because of this slow processing system from KVR Munich. No emergency appointments available! No helpline call received! No response!

Today, I had my security interview and it went smooth. Maybe I am lucky the officer was very kind and supportive. I was with my wife, and kid. I asked many questions while filling out the questionnaire, and my kid played YouTube. Officer was friendly and even told us that his son is also of same age as my son. In the end I told officer that he is very kind, and my experience is excellent even though I was little nervous because of reviews on Google maps. He just smiled and said thank you for your compliment.

There is absolutely nothing here that can be called ‘service’. I have been waiting for my residence permit for eight months. I am a student, and because my visa has expired, I cannot leave the country. Not only are there no online appointments available, but even to apply for an emergency appointment by phone, you have to wait for hours. When I finally managed to get an appointment and went there, the security staff asked me for an email confirmation. However, since the email had never been sent to me, I could not provide proof. The security staff then started talking about me among themselves in Ukrainian, a language I do not understand, and began shouting at me. If you are talking about me, then speak German or English so that I can understand what is being said. I do not understand why they personalized the situation, nor do I understand this excessive and hostile attitude. What happened was not a matter of properly carrying out their duties; it was simply rude and unprofessional behavior. Note: The appointment information did not arrive in my inbox because my email address had been registered incorrectly by your office. A dot in the address had been omitted. I had entered t
