(Update from 2026 below) I bought Sportstiefel shoes from Schuh-Bertl via Post. I am very happy with the shoes, and I like the unique styles they offer. The quality is much higher than the price. I initially purchased the wrong size, but they were very quick and helpful with getting me the correct size. German customs has been a true nightmare, so I especially have appreciated the patience of Schuh-Bertl. I hope I can one day visit them in-person, because the service has been excellent over e-mail and the shoe quality is fantastic. They are something truly unique. Update from 2026: We came to Munich on vacation and we went straight to Bertl’s shop. I spent a long time in the shop trying «everything», and they were very patient. We even got a tour of the workshop and manufacture, as well as repairs. If you want a heard-wearing shoe, this is the place. I bought a pair of Haferlschuhe, unlined and unstructured. It’s like wearing no shoes, amazing. It was magical to see the construction behind the scenes, and Bertl was so full of knowledge and shared so much with us. The quality of his work is astounding! All of his products (shoes, belts, briefcases...yes even shorts) are made of REAL leather and are handmade. I myself have owned high-end branded shoes and only a few of them are worth their price. The price is also reasonable especially for a pair of handmade shoes. Schuh Bertl has such personable personality (and his wife as well, she offered us refreshments during a hot Munich weather), I mean I only went there to buy a pair of shoes and the guy invited us to show his workshop! He showed us how he makes regular and custom made shoes step by step. When multiple celebrities, a king and a pope ask you personally to make them a pair of shoes, you know this guy is LEGIT! This guy truly is a living LEGEND!

After many years walking with their Haferl shoe, it was time to put some new soles on. To my suprise, this service was not up to scratch at all. First time I got the shoes back with new soles completey bend, which made the shoes unusable. Then I could send it back, and they did the complete proces again. Now the left shoe is sort of ok, the right one stil bend, annoying to walk. Time will tell if I can get them back to a stat where I love them again. I would not recommend to let them resole your shoes, the craftmanship is nowhere near where it is on a new pair.
